Share this small piece of living Louisiana history with your family and friends as a reminder of the past! Did your family always have dried shrimp on hand to snack on or to cook with?
I caught every one of these shrimp myself while pulling my own net for my Human-Powered Net video-a story that has now been viewed more than 5 million times. Then I brought the shrimp home and dried them the old-fashioned way.
Dried shrimp have deep roots along the Louisiana coast. By the 1870s, Chinese fishing communities around Grand Isle and Barataria Bay had built a thriving industry by boiling fresh shrimp in brine and drying them in the sun. That preservation method eventually became woven into coastal Cajun cooking, adding concentrated shrimp flavor to gumbos, gravies, rice dishes and other pantry meals.
There's something pretty special about pulling that net with my own hands, taking the shrimp straight from the water, and preserving them using a tradition practiced along this same coast for more than 150 years. My dad actually shared this technique with me as a young boy, and I’m honored to share this old tradition with you today! ❤️ 🦐
Share this video with your friends, so they can be WOW’d by this unique method! It creates the perfect shrimp deli meat with no fancy equipment needed.. you control the sodium and the cost! ENJOY!
🦐 Shrimp lovers to the front! This is my take on the viral gyro sheet pan method; except I decided to go full on gulf SHRIMP! And the pescatarians can thank me later. Send this to whoever is making dinner tonight; because the flavor is amazing! 🤤
Have you ever seen a person pull a trawl by hand? Welcome to my world.. this was a common practice in my family; so I wanted to share it with you! This family visiting Louisiana had a blast participating in this Cajun tradition, and I’m glad I’m the one who was able to share with them.
Wow! Share this fig leaf hack with your friends so they can enjoy it also! It’s actually the LEAVES that contain the strongest essence of “fig”! I was blown away.. and this syrup is truly magical!
Let’s share this new take on a common dish with your friends and family…. The beauty is using your own homemade cornbread blend or whatever box cornbread mix you already love. Let’s give pineapple slices a break and make a hot pan of OKRA UPSIDE-DOWN CORNBREAD!
Part 2: The only Zesty Cajun Dipping Sauce for okra and onion rings you’ll ever need! Save it to make it.
This slime reducing METHOD will change even the pickiest eater. Share this hack to let the world know it’s ok to enjoy Blooming OKRA. 🌎 🔥
Since it’s National Onion Ring Day, I decided to make BLOOMING OKRA instead. The surprising part wasn’t just how good it was. Along the way, I found a moment in the process that gets rid of most of the slime that turns so many people away from okra. Are you saving this method for the next time okra is on the menu?

🐙 You probably expected this to be a post of me grilling up an OCTOPUS…. Well, It’s not.
I watched ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ last night, and I have to say, it stuck with me all day.
What started as a playful movie about an octopus turned into something much deeper—loss, friendship, second chances, and the unexpected ways our lives connect. Get your tissue ready for this one..
Has anyone else seen it? What was your biggest takeaway? ❤️
