I've received a few texts asking about a chemical called TPO found in some gel polishes. The EU recently banned TPO in gel polishes. There have been many articles and news outlets covering this story. I'd like to clear up any confusion as many are now wondering if gel manicures are safe. Let's start with what TPO is:
TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide) is a photoinitiator that absorbs UV or LED light to cause a chemical reaction, transforming the liquid gel into a hard, durable, and long-lasting solid.
The EU has been using many products with TPO in it. Most all US gel companies have moved away from using TPO or never have had it in their gel formulas. The gel lines I use do not contain TPO in them. My main line Madam Glam Madam Glam offers certified Vegan Gel Polish by Vegan.org, Hema-Free* Gel Polish, Cruelty-Free Gel Polish, 21-Free Gel Polish, Palm Oil Free Gel Polish and Gluten-Free nail and gel polishes. So for those worried that gel manicures are not safe, they are safe, when done correctly and when safe products are used. However you should always seek out a professional and knowledgeable nail technician and know what brands they are using on you. You should always be able to ask what brands and are they safe, your nail tech should be knowledgeable about the products they are using. Hopefully this will clear up any confusion on whether gel manicures are safe or not.

I have some very exciting news to share!! I am changing salons in the next 2 weeks. I am leaving Savvy Hair and moving to The Nail Nook on Johnson st. I've been at Savvy for the past 6years and my time here has been great. I am so appreciative to Savvy for everything, it has been a great starting point for me, but as my business has grown, it is time for me to move on into another space with new adventures.
