Fifty years ago today, on March 8, 1976, Patsy unlocked the door to a small beauty shop in Baytown, Texas. After years of working as a hairstylist in Houston, she and her husband, along with their three children, returned to their hometown to live and open Shear Pleasure.
The shop smelled of talcum powder, hair tonic, and fresh coffee. Mirrors caught the light—and the stories of the people who sat before them. The styling chairs held the impressions of everyone who had passed through.
Patsy, scissors in one hand and a smile in the other, worked from morning until evening. Her Aunt Eulious—famous for her lavender hair and a stylist herself—came out of retirement to help. Together, they did more than cut, color, or perm hair.
They made people feel beautiful.
Three years after opening, Patsy’s husband passed away. Through grief and life’s demands, she kept the shop open. In all those years, she never missed a day of work because of illness and took only the rarest of vacations.
Clients came for cuts and color, but they stayed for the listening. Patsy heard it all—bridal nerves, prom excitement, job interviews, anniversaries, and losses. Many of her clients have been sitting in her chair for decades.
When someone passed away, Patsy would go to the funeral home and fix their hair just the way she knew they liked it. If a client was recovering at home or in the hospital, she would stop by after work to care for them.
When hurricanes knocked out power or businesses closed during the pandemic, Patsy still found a way. She cut hair outside in the parking lot or in someone’s backyard—whatever it took to take care of her people.
In 1994, her daughter joined her behind the chair, continuing the family tradition and sharing in the stories that had been filling the shop for years.
Over the decades, styles changed—bouffants to bobs to pixies—but the shop remained constant.
Fifty years later, the door still opens, the chairs still turn, and the stories continue.
Because Shear Pleasure was never just a beauty shop.
It was a place where people came to feel cared for, to be listened to, and to leave a little better than when they walked in.
And for fifty years, Patsy has been there—scissors in hand and heart wide open.
Happy anniversary, Mom. Your hands built more than a business, they built a community. ❤️

Good morning! It’s a great day to start working again! It’s been 7 weeks from my break and 6 weeks from surgery. Honestly, a hairstylist worst nightmare, but turned into a blessing! I want to thank all my clients for their patients and a huge thank you to my Shear Pleasure Team for all the support, during these last weeks.. i am so blessed. Patsy, Klo, Arin and Lindsay, stepped in immediately and took care of every client, for the past 7 weeks… I can’t thank you enough, for what y’all have done. I still have some healing on range of motion and strength and will be doing occupational therapy for a few more months, but the Dr has cleared me for work and I start back today with a full schedule. I’m so excited to get back and see you all soon! 😘 -Susan aka Boss Lady 😜
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Sending out an update…. Susan had a successful surgery and will not need another, going further. Her two week post op, Dr. visit went well and she is healing nicely. She is starting occupational therapy this week and will possible be cleared for work by mid September. The Shear Pleasure team has been working hard for four weeks taking care of all her clients and we are willing to continue, until she is able to come back full force. If you have an upcoming appointment with Susan, she will be reaching out to you and help you reschedule, on a week to week bases. Thank you for all your patience, prayers and well wishes and we look forward to making you beautiful!
Unfortunately, Susan has had a fall and broke her arm, requiring surgery. Patsy, Kloe’ and Lindsay will be coming together and helping with her clients.
