I started this journey 8 years ago at a small salon in Tuscaloosa, Alabama tanning cheerleaders and sorority girls more times than I can count, as I was once a sorority girl who loved an ultra-dark tan myself (still do, lol). Now seeing it come to life the way it has in 2025 is one of my biggest blessings. What a ride it has been.

The way that Southeast Texas has embraced my business is noteworthy. My tans made it to Florida, Alabama, Hawaii, California, and ALL over the state of Texas. Having brands personally reach out to send solutions for me to try, to the endless number of beautiful brides who trusted me to enhance their natural beauty on their special day is something I couldn’t have dreamed up myself.

Let’s talk preparation & after care for a minute!

But before we dive in, can we just take a second to appreciate this beauty one more time?! She followed my instructions to a T, from her trial tan all the way to her wedding tan and looked absolutely flawless! 🤍

Properly preparing your skin for a spray tan is one of the most important steps in the process. When you prep properly, it *almost* guarantees perfect results. Every spray tan artist has their own set of preparation instructions, but most of the time they’re within the same realm, give or take a few minor details.

Here at TBC, we ask that you exfoliate and shave at a minimum of 24 hours before your appointment. If you’re a wax girly, 48 hours before is just fine, but no less than that. These specific timelines ensure that your skin has had time to heal and that your pores are back to their normal size, which prevents over-saturation or what we call “strawberry seed” skin. Some people don’t realize that shaving and waxing is still a form of exfoliation and we have to give our skin time to heal before slapping on a spray tan, or even a self-tanner.

When you come to the studio for your appointment, bare-skin and bare-faced is best. Think of anything on your skin as a barrier to the tan you’re getting. Any deodorant, lotion, perfume, or other products could potentially prevent that beautiful tan from properly absorbing and developing. And trust me, we can tell when there’s products there, even if you say there isn’t. 😉

Another HUGE factor in tan longevity and development is the products you’re using on your skin before your tan and after. What a lot of us don’t realize is that most things sold at the drug store, really aren’t all that great for our skin, even if they’ve been part of our skin-care routine for years.

The best thing you can do for your tan is using the correct products with spray-tan safe ingredients. Avoiding alcohol based products, mineral oil, and seed oils is ALWAYS a must. Good for your tan and good for your skin in the long run.
