A little more honest back surgery update… ❤️

This recovery has been harder than I expected. I’m not going to pretend I’m doing great, because honestly, I’m really struggling right now. I’m incredibly stiff, sore, uncomfortable, and just exhausted.

I’m also going to be staying in the hospital longer than we originally thought. My blood pressure keeps dropping, so they’re keeping a close eye on me and making sure I’m stable before they let me go home.

I knew this surgery was going to be a big deal. I knew recovery wasn’t going to be easy. But knowing that and actually being in the middle of it are two completely different things. Right now, I’m taking it hour by hour and reminding myself that my body just went through something major and it needs time.

I’m scared, frustrated, uncomfortable, and honestly just ready to feel like myself again. But I’m also trying to remember that healing isn’t always pretty, and having a hard day—or even a hard few days—doesn’t mean I’m not making progress.

To everyone who has checked on me, prayed for me, sent messages, or simply thought about me… thank you. I may not have the energy to respond to everyone, but please know I see it and I feel the love. ❤️

One thing I always try to remind my clients of is that hair doesn’t photograph the same from every angle or in every type of lighting. 📸💡

These two pictures are of the same hair, but look at how different the color, dimension, cool-ness, even warmth, and highlights can appear depending on where the light hits and how the hair is positioned!

Natural sunlight can bring out warmth and dimension that indoor lighting may not show. Different angles can make highlights look brighter, darker, warmer, cooler, or even more blended.

So if you ever see a hair picture online and think, “Why doesn’t my hair look exactly like that in every picture?” — this is why! 😂

Hair is dimensional. Lighting changes everything. And sometimes one head of hair can look like two completely different colors depending on the picture! 🤎✨

I’ve debated for a while about how to share this, because this isn’t an easy thing for me to talk about. For quite some time, I’ve been struggling with ongoing back problems and pain. What started as something I hoped would eventually get better has continued to affect my everyday life, my work, and the things I love doing.

As a hairstylist, being behind the chair is such a huge part of who I am. I love my job, I love seeing all of you, and I honestly couldn’t imagine doing anything else. That’s what makes stepping away so difficult. But I’ve come to realize that I need to take care of myself now, even though taking that time away is scary and incredibly hard for me.

After a lot of thought, appointments, and trying to manage things, I’ve made the decision to have back surgery at the end of September. 𝐈’𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 8–10 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤.

This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one I know I need to make. My hope is that by taking this time to properly heal, I’ll come back healthier, stronger, and able to continue doing what I love and taking care of all of you for many years to come. ❤️

I know 8–10 weeks feels like a long time, and honestly, it feels like a long time to me too. But I’m trying to remind myself that this is just a temporary pause, not goodbye. 🥹

I truly have the BEST clients, and I’m so incredibly grateful for every appointment, every conversation, every laugh, and every one of you who has trusted me with your hair over the years.

I’m already looking forward to the day I can get back behind that chair, shears in hand, and see all of your smiling faces again. Until then, I’ll be taking it one day at a time and focusing on getting better. ❤️
