Adelaide Salon Spa
We lost our lease from Schnitzer Properties and are closed permanently.
IT'S A WRAP
To whom it may concern:
Due to circumstances beyond Dan's and my control, Adelaide Salon is closed for good, as of January 31, 2024.
After investing tens of thousands of dollars both in purchasing and remodeling Adelaide Salon, Schnitzer Properties refused to extend our lease, and, additionally, has said that they will not lease to any other salons. This decision was made almost immediately after they received a phone call from one party, combined, I'm guessing, with a negative history from previous salon owners in their complex.
Regardless of our solid payment history and not being a high maintenance client, that phone call and any other contact from that party was the property manager's tipping point.
Schnitzer's refusal to lease to other salons is the toughest part. This means that we could not sell our salon to recoup our investment. This also means that we had to gut the salon that we spent so much time, heart and soul creating. Dan the Man did not install those cool geometric tiles just so they would fall off easily in four years.
The largest loss by far, will be the friendships and relationships we have built over the years with our clients and stylists.
If there had been a mission statement for Adelaide, it would have been to provide stability for myself and our stylists in a clean, friendly and sophisticated looking salon. Based on comments from many clients of mine and our stylists, we had achieved all of this, except for the stability.
As a side note, I have also decided to retire from electrolysis at this time.
We will not be moving the salon and starting over, as this whole process was neither easy come, nor easy go.
Many thanks to all who have been a source of strength and support throughout this time.

From Tony:
"Shirley cut and permed mom’s hair Saturday.
She was awesome, so patient and kind. This was mom’s first outing anywhere in 4-5 months. So good Shirley had her engaged in conversation.
I think it was as much therapy as it was a hair appointment.
Thank you for the referrals."
From Carol, owner of Adelaide:
Shirley is one of the sweetest and most kind people I have ever known. Treating older folks with extreme kindness and making them look their best is her specialty.
All of our stylists book their own appointments. To reach Shirley, please call 503.310.1099.

Lynne has been coming to Shirley for well over a decade. Our salon has one level, drop at the front door easy access for those using canes or walkers. We value our senior clients at Adelaide. We would love to beautify your favorite senior. Please leave a message for Shirley or Kathy at 503.746.5077. (Lynne removed her mask just for this picture, then it went right back on)

Adelaide Salon & Spa policies and procedures in response to COVID-19 (everything you ever wanted to know and so much more):
First and foremost, WELCOME BACK! We have missed you!
In preparation for your arrival, each stylist's station and our treatment room (used for electrolysis and massage) have had everything non essential for your appointment placed in a cupboard, cabinet, or under cover.
Every item left out has been sanitized to the Oregon State Health Authority standards between each client, including their phones and pens.
Stylists, electrologist and masseuse will take their own temperature at the start of each day and ask themselves the questions on the health list. If they do not pass, they will cancel their day and go home.
They will change or sanitize their cape or apron between each client. Client capes will not be reused on clients until they are laundered.. Stylist, electrologist and masseuse will use a new mask with each client.
When you arrive at the salon, please stay in your car and call or text the person you are here to see. The person you are seeing will wash their hands before greeting you. When they are ready for you, they will meet you at our front door. Do NOT enter the salon before this. We are only allowed one client at a time, by law. No extra friends or family may come in unless they are assisting a disabled client.
Upon entry to the salon, your temperature will be taken and you will be given a health questionnaire to complete at each visit. The time you enter the salon and the time you leave will be noted in case any contact tracing should become necessary.
We will give you a new mask to wear throughout your appointment and ask you to wash your hands or apply hand sanitizer. You and your stylist must wear a mask covering your mouth AND nose throughout your appointment.
Your electrologist will be wearing a mask and a shield. For facial work, the client's mask can be moved around as needed, sometimes using two masks, one for the mouth and one for the nose (to expose the upper lip).
For massage, the client may remove their mask while lying on their stomach, but must put it back on before turning onto their back. COVID-19 is spread from the lungs, coming out of the mouth and nose. It is NOT spread through the skin.
Stylists must wash every client's hair before cutting (no dry cuts), as the virus can live on our hair.
No paper or fabric may be left sitting out, including the form you filled out and a paper appointment book.
Stylists are working 6 ft apart, or more, until our dividers arrive.
If you see us forget anything or have any questions, please help us develop our new habits and mention it. This is a lot to remember and we can use all the help we can get!
