Happy Fourth of July! Let Freedom ring! We all have an idea about Freedom, politically, socially etc. Do you have freedom of movement and freedom from pain?
I approach massage a little differently than most of my colleagues. I don't focus on the muscles so much anymore. I don't focus on skeletal alignment. I focus on the nervous system. The nervous system is the main culprit for tight muscles, pain, and weakness.
No one comes to me to straighten out their body, they come to me because they hurt or feel tension or lack of mobility. Many believe that if they could be properly straightened out, the pain will go away. That is not always the case.

Hello friends of Alleviate Massage.
I may not open right away but I want to be prepared to do so.
I need the following items. Looking for inexpensive or gently used, or a place where I can purchase. I also need a N95 or similar mask for myself. Thanks in advance!!
1. Face mask for clients (maybe 10?)
2. 10 pillow cases (regular) (can be used)
3. 5 King size pillow cases (can be used)
4. Plastic sheets to cover floors and carpet and possibly walls.
5. Recipe of germicide or a gallon of such that I can spray on surfaces to kill virus, without bleach (if possible.)
6. Very light and washable gowns or aprons. And maybe shoe covering.
Indiana may or may not open up for business on May 1.
Alleviate massage will probably not open up right away.
My objective has alway been to do no harm, to keep people safe. Several things have to happen in order to ensure I improve the lives of my clients and not make them worse.
The following things will change for now. (in no particular order)
1. No online scheduling until I figure out a routine. I will need more time between clients to clean and cut out the possibility of people passing in the waiting room
2. PPE - MASKS.. for me and my clients. I would prefer to have an N95 mask.
3. No extra people in the office.
4. Lots of plastic and washable items.
There will be more but that's just off the top of my head.
I will call those who had appointments that had to be cancelled. They will get in first.

Massage in a COVID world We are massage therapists in a COVID world, life in plastic is fantastic! The imaginings of a massage...from a distance
Day 6 of Quarantine.
COVID-19 is in Bedford, don't go out unless you need groceries (I recommend online shopping and pickup) If you go inside the store wear gloves and a mask.
*Wipe EVERYTHING DOWN with Clorox wipes -plastics bags, door handles, dog leashes, cardboard boxes etc
*Get outside and exercise. Walk, run, garden, yoga in the backyard. Everyday do something. If you need ideas, text or call me.
*Social distance. This is no joke!! I am still seeing group pics on FB. There are tons of ways to video chat: FaceTime, Zoom, MarcoPolo etc
*Be safe and be smart.
Yours in health, Mary
UPDATE:
Alleviate Massage Therapy is closing temporarily due to the Covid-19 virus.
This decision is the ethical response to what we know about the virus. There are high risk individuals in our community, heck, I'm high risk. To "take a chance" on someone else's health is in direct violation of my oath to do no harm.
Waiting for symptoms is too late for action. I should have done this sooner.
Some of what we know:
1. The time between exposure and symptoms can be up to 14 days.
2. The virus is contagious for days before symptoms develop, so your “healthy client” might not be.
3. The virus stays intact on surfaces for several days; it stays intact in the air for several hours (at least).
4. COVID-19 is extremely contagious, and it doesn’t take a lot of exposure to spread from one person to another.
5. The virus appears to be contagious after symptoms subside—but we don’t know how long.
6. At this point, older people and those with impaired immune systems are not necessarily more likely than others to catch the virus, but they are more likely to need extensive medical interventions. (Although that may be changing. In some countries the number of people in hospital care are skewing much younger.)
7. We don’t have enough medical capacity to manage what’s coming—which makes it even more vital not to add to that load in any way.

I attended a seminar on Dermoneuromodulation. It's a mouthful for sure but an effective way to treat pain. Focusing on the nerves, stretching the skin, it's easy and profound!
