"After high school graduation, John entered the United States Navy. He had worked for GreatWave Communications since 2014 as a switchman. John enjoyed being a part of a company that allowed him the opportunity to use all of his skill sets, from basic facility repairs to the fast paced world of fiber optic engineering.

John enjoyed traveling and having adventures with the love of his life of 37 years, Amy, and those adventures often led him to family. His grandbabies were his pride and joy; he was always beaming when surrounded by them.

John was strong and exceedingly athletic and enjoyed sports, particularly football and basketball. His favorite teams were The Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State and The Cleveland Cavaliers. He loved woodworking, building, online gaming, fishing, and taking his boat out on Lake Erie. John enjoyed attending the D-Day Conneaut reenactment and looked forward to it each year.

John was gentle, kind, dedicated, empathic, creative, and intelligent. He always had a listening ear and a shoulder to help hold you up. He always went above and beyond to help family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, acquaintances and strangers in any way he could. John was a dedicated husband, a loving father, a proud papa, a soft-hearted big brother, and a supportive uncle. John was always his happiest when surrounded by his family; his family was his everything."

""Mike Martin died 8-1-2021 due to the Delta variant of COVID. His life, however, is what I focus on remembering. Mike and I both loved nature. We met relatively late in life, I was 36 and he was 41, and our first real date was a tent camping weekend in a primitive campground in the Mark Twain National Forest. We later bought our own wooded land in the Ozarks so we could enjoy nature every single day. Mike built our home with his own two hands. Mike was intelligent and caring, showing his love by service. He was very accepting of people, never judging. He’d held several jobs through the years after his Air Force days, more recently as a university professor. He was also a musician. But his greatest joy, other than our loving marriage and deep friendship, was our only grandson, Hogan, who had turned 2 the day after Mike was admitted to the hospital in July 2021. Hogan, now three years old, tells me that PawPaw (Mike) loves him. And he tells me he β€œsees him” and that β€œPawPaw loves me too”. I hold on to the belief that Mike can somehow see the ways we are honoring him and his life, and that he will absolutely love knowing that a tree was planted in his honor."-Kimberley Martin
