Just like your tattoo artists, contractors, reserving a hotel/rental car, and other reservation & commission-based industries; weβre joining the list. And why not? Your hairdresser generally sees you more annually than any other provider.

What a pretentious-sounding wordπ
If youβve been to my salon & know us group of artistic individuals, is anything but that. Weβre very loyal to our craft. Our autonomy and embrace of our quirky characteristics that make us US. The type of culture as people [and people conducting creative business] that looks beyond surface level and seeks to know The Whoβs & Whyβs of life-and hair, of course.
When my orbit first aligned with Heather, I knew instantaneously βThis girl gets it.β As a novice hairdresser in training, I knew this person conceptually was going to make a strong artist. Boy, did I bet on the right color π¨! I landed a funky, p***y, degree-holding art student. Thatβs groovy & all; but deeper down I ultimately met a tender-hearted, thoughtful, inquisitive, playful, imaginative & gritty dreamer like me. And thatβs not even the half of it.
I am actually more emotional about this experience than I thought Iβd be. Her sole purpose was to be utilized as an intern. I wanted nothing more than to treat her like a normal person seeking to learn in a safe atmosphere. I could have easily made her sweep, dust, & reception all day and say βThere. Youβve knocked out some hours in salon lifeβ and signed her school slip.
I donβt think of myself as a teacher naturally, but I guess Iβve never asked/tried. Since November, Iβve done my best to give a well-rounded view of this career & industry to this person I ultimately feel Iβve nurtured. From field trips, to unconventional homework assignments, continued education classes, and hands on work- I could have only hoped at least a few of all the things I know rubbed off. And I believe they did because Iβve witnessed it! Thank you to our clientele who welcomed her over this winter season & allowed our staff to guide her while you shared your time.
As I told Heather; βIt took about 6 years in for my craft to fully βclickβ. My hope for you is youβll be better than me & in a fraction of that time.β
She will be.
