As holidays approach quickly and we head into a new year I am so grateful for my amazing clients who have helped me survive this wild ride 2020 has given me as a hairstylist. Box color…is it really THAT bad?⁣

YES!!!! It really is so stay far far away and come see me instead. ⁣
⁣
One size does not fit all when it comes to hair color. It can’t take into consideration what is already on your hair, the underlying pigment in your natural hair, the condition of your hair, or your future hair goals!⁣

Because color in a box doesn’t know your hair it glass open your cuticle with ammonia to pe*****te. It causes considerable damage to the structural integrity of your hair permanently which means….major damage, split ends and hair cuts…lots of em. ⁣
⁣
The biggest risk of at home hair is using a product that even a professional can’t reverse because of metallic salts. Repeatedly using metallic dye will make your hair darker than you’d wanted and also cannot predictably be removed when you want to change directions with your hair…think melting, smoking, breaking completely off! ⁣

SO yes, if you want healthy, beautiful hair, box dye is NOT in your future.⁣
⁣
Quarantine forced this lovely ladies hand and she got a little desperate, she was not my client at the time. So now we are working to undo the burgundy box dye she used. It’s going to be a process but for session 1 we were super happy with what we were able to achieve!⁣

just because summer is turning to fall soon doesn’t mean you need to ditch the summer blonde!⁣

let’s convince the warm weather to stick around by painting all the sunkissed highlights!

how do you wash your hair? seems like a pretty basic task...lather rinse repeat right?! ⁣

well one of the things I hear often from people is they feel like their scalp gets oily but their ends are dry, ESPECIALLY in central Oregon summer! ⁣
hopefully this routine will help you solve that. ⁣
⁣
shampoo your scalp! NOT your hair. the ends of your hair need oil to protect them, so when the suds from your scalp run down that will cleanse your ends plenty! ⁣

now here’s the game changer. Do it again! the first shampoo removes product and impurities you’ve applied like dry shampoo, volumizer and hairspray. the second shampoo will actually cleanse your scalp. this will help for those of you who swear you have to shampoo daily (insert cringe and eye roll)⁣

next condition focusing on the length that would go in a pony tail. I will briefly condition the front pieces of my hair being careful to avoid my scalp. our scalps produce natural oils and do not need to be conditioned. if you have dry scalp we can talk about that later but conditioner isn’t a cure for that so let’s skip it k?! k!⁣

This Angelica Huston look-alike was at a place where she wanted a new 'do' and a new maintenance schedule but was unsure of the direction she could go! (That's my job!)⁣

Insert fresh hair thats soft, compliments her in every way, and gives her a little more grace in the grow out department. ⁣

Four hours later and bam she’s a BEAUTY!

Love being blonde but don’t want the maintenance of highlights every 6-8 weeks?!⁣

Lived in blondes happen to be my favorite! ⁣

When you know how to place highlights to give the maximum punch for brightness but also a soft line at the root you can go so much longer in between touch ups!⁣

Well done color will of course change over time, but it should grow out softly, gain more warmth over time, but still look healthy and gorgeous!
