I've been reflecting on the idea that "Art is not an accessory to pleasure but a means of our connection to the cosmos." This thought resonated with me as I watched Antonio-Tony Gonzalez-Walker’s video of the sun flickering behind trees and listened to the gentle rippling of a river—a beautiful reminder of how art transcends our everyday experiences and unites us with something greater.
Then reminiscing about that joyful moment when friends sat by the ocean, the crashing of tumbling rocks and the roaring waves hushed us, invoking a profound connection to the fluid presence of our foundations: blood, rivers, oceans, cerebrospinal fluid—a fluid state of unity.
Yesterday, as we, Kent Bond, Michelle Martin and Bernard Coll and I viewed the Portraits in Red exhibit at the Warm Springs Museum, we encountered a powerful display that challenges our collective moral landscape. Experiences like these confirm that art is more than just for pleasure—it moves us, provokes us, and reminds us that we are capable of so much more than fear.
I love exploring the transformative power of art in all its forms and treasure the memories that come from experiencing it together. Here's to many more shared artistic poignant adventures in the future!

And about fear:
“I believe that the world was created and approved by love, that it subsists, coheres, and endures by love, and that, insofar as it is redeemable, it can be redeemed only by love.”
~ Wendell Berry

I’m teaching tomorrow at 12:30pm on Insight Timer
Present in Motion & Emotion—Begin with gentle, slow, and meditative movement to cultivate sensory awareness with the ground, gravity, space. and effort. The invitation is to softly pay attention to sensations, clusters of energy, emotions and our tendency to over effort. Connect with your moving body, learn from the experience, and use sensory feedback to guide you to your next move. As we progress, there’s a slow transition into a more dynamic and energizing practice, while remaining deeply grounded in an energy state that’s informing you in motion.

The Weight of My Words
One of my deepest somatic experiences happened at Goddard College in a sharing circle while in residency when I said “I am a racist”.
Feeling proud that I could speak up about my cultural conditioning. I never got the chance to finish that thought—my words got caught in my throat, I was drowning in a flood of abhorrence. A wave came crashing over me, I felt sudden heat, and a tightness in my chest.
I’m still uncomfortable being in a group where suddenly the group collectively elevates itself above one of its members. The statement “I am a racist” came from a place of self-awareness and vulnerability, but the timing was certainly imperfect. The group was grieving at the time and the weight my words was just too heavy.
I continue to explore in my writing the tension between my desire to speak my truth and the importance of being sensitive to the emotions of those around me.
I have come to believe my frustration and despair about the state of politics and racism in our society played a role in my impulse to speak out in that moment. Disrupting the group dynamic, even if it was initially serving a purpose for the grieving individuals, was a way to express my feelings of urgency and frustration.
This moment, though difficult, was an important catalyst for my personal growth and understanding of these complex issues. I am on a somatic path to continue to work on the complexities of having these essential and difficult conversations and navigating uncomfortable situations with grace.
The aftermath of this somatic journey following the sharing circle had me feeling ungrounded as I processed the experience.
That next week of residency was a very visceral journey that catapulted me to seek the “how” of finding that sense of embodied understanding through somatic release instead of the why.
Join me to learn and discover the “how” of exploring your own somatic journey through movement as I guide you on Zoom every Sunday morning at 9am PST
