Maybe it’s because the city around it is.
The erosion of federal life(ives) isn’t abstract in Bethesda; you can feel it on the sidewalks and in the air. NIH has been decimated by policy and politics, and with it goes a lot of its rhythm …. lunch meetings, evening cocktails, a shared sense that this place mattered. When institutions unravel, communities follow. It feels like what’s closing is so much more than another restaurant. It feels like a culture of care is being shuttered along with our country’s mind and conscience.
