Let’s talk about something that’s been debated for years… tipping in a solo studio.

I completely understand why people ask, “If you own your business, why should you be tipped?”

Here’s what many people don’t realize.

Owning a solo studio doesn’t mean I’m making money from a team of employees or collecting income while someone else performs the service. I am the business.

Every appointment pays for everything: rent, utilities, products, equipment, insurance, licensing, continuing education, software, taxes, marketing, bookkeeping, laundry, cleaning… and then, hopefully, what’s left becomes my paycheck.

Large salons often have multiple technicians generating revenue for the business owner. A solo studio doesn’t have that luxury. There is no additional income stream. My hands are the only hands creating revenue.

When you tip your solo service provider, you’re not tipping a corporation or contributing to someone else’s profits. You’re simply saying, “I appreciate the care, skill, and experience you gave me today.”

Is tipping required? Absolutely not.

But if you’ve ever wondered whether it matters to a solo business owner, the answer is yes—it does. It’s never something I expect, but it’s always something I deeply appreciate.

Whether you choose to tip, refer a friend, leave a review, or continue trusting me with your nails, you’re supporting a dream that is built one appointment at a time.

And for that, I’ll always be grateful. 🤍
