The va**nal microbiome relies on beneficial bacteria — primarily Lactobacillus — to maintain a healthy acidic environment and protect against irritation and imbalance.

Harsh antibacterial products don’t distinguish between harmful and beneficial bacteria. Which means over-cleansing can sometimes create the very issues people are trying to avoid.

In my culture, soap-making is rooted in ritual and care for the body. But as a biomedical engineer, I also saw how modern feminine hygiene had drifted into extremes: over-fragrancing, over-cleansing, and disrupting the microbiome in the process.

I wanted to create something gentler. Something rooted in biology instead of shame.
This product became the meeting point between science, softness, and tradition.

In collaboration with , we created more than artwork. We created a visual story rooted in softness, ritual, femininity, and care.

Inspired by the cultural beauty woven throughout Syrian tradition, this limited-edition piece was designed to reflect the heart behind Barrier Bar: reclaiming intimate care as something rooted in respect, not shame.
