My new favorite snack on the go! Even our cats are surprised to see me just snacking on our new ceremonial cacao discs without needing any sweetener!

You can just snack on them like this or for a proper ceremonial cacao drink, mix 16-32 discs into 8 oz of hot water.
can’t wait for you to try them!

We’re back with another round of Adaptogenius with a tied score of 1 to 1! In this herbal adventure, we try to identify adaptogen extracts by taste and smell while blindfolded. Do you think you would’ve gotten this one right? Thank you to our awesome host Branden Berger for being our guiding light in blindfolded darkness!

Full episode is up on YT if you’d like to see the whole thing!

🔥89 degrees outside. Zero melted chocolate inside.

This is what good packaging looks like. Biodegradable insulation, cold packs, and fast shipping working together so your cacao shows up exactly how it left the Chocolate Factory: solid, cool, and ready for whatever you’ve got planned.

We blindfolded ourselves and tried to identify all 16 of our adaptogens by taste alone. Roselle Hibiscus came up and we both nailed the flavor instantly.

One small problem. Blindfolded and writing without looking, I confidently put down “Poselle.” Forgot the R even exists apparently. Got the answer right, lost the point on a technicality of my own creation.

AnnaBlanca will not let me forget this.

Huge thanks to our host for running the whole game show and keeping us honest. We could not have done it without you.

Full episode is up on our YouTube now.

Which one do you think we both failed completely? Drop your guess below.

Most cacao you’ve seen your whole life is brown.

So when you see it in this color… it raises a fair question.

This clip is from a conversation I had with Evan Roberts (), who is an awesome guy and someone I genuinely love talking with. His podcast (the Elemental Evan podcast) one of my absolute favorites to be on, and he asked exactly the right question here.

We get into why this color exists, what it tells you about the compounds inside, and why that actually matters.

If you’re curious about cacao on a much deeper level — how it’s grown, processed, what affects its chemistry, and how it compares to other functional ingredients like cordyceps — go listen to the full episode.

Fresh cacao beans are naturally purple at the origin.

That color comes from anthocyanins, a specific class of plant compounds that do far more than “act as antioxidants.”

The old antioxidant idea was simple: eat antioxidants, neutralize free radicals, done.

But anthocyanins are more interesting than that.

They appear to work as signaling molecules- compounds that interact with pathways inside the body and help activate your own built-in defense systems. Research on anthocyanin-rich foods shows effects on pathways connected to Nrf2, AMPK, SIRT1, and FOXO - some of the same cellular stress-response and longevity pathways people talk about with hormesis, fasting, exercise, and even metformin-like metabolic signaling.

Instead of simply “adding antioxidants,” these compounds may help your body increase its own protective enzymes, including glutathione-related systems and superoxide dismutase — the internal antioxidant machinery your cells rely on every day.

That’s why the purple matters.

It’s not just color.
It’s visible plant chemistry.
And in purple cacao, that chemistry is part of what makes this product so extraordinary.

In the 1990s, a group of Chinese female runners shocked the world by breaking records that didn’t seem possible at the time.

Their coach later revealed that cordyceps was part of their regimen.

Cordyceps has traditionally been used to support endurance and stamina, and modern research is now exploring its ability to improve oxygen utilization and aerobic capacity.

When your body uses oxygen more efficiently, performance changes.
