These muscles are generally strong and overused that they easily overtake the underused muscle right next to the tibia bone(Shin bone) called the Tibialis Anterior, which is a muscle that causes the foot at the ankle to โDorsiflexโ or take pressure off the gas pedal.
Over-use of the plantar flexor group causes a host of problems that can travel up the body causing referred knee pain, low back/ hip pain, and generally cross body weight shifts that can and will lead to debilitating injury.

This is important as it is the only muscle that pulls the foot back up into position. Strengthening is required here! Using a band to perform the action of taking the foot off the gas pedal will strengthen this generally weak muscle action.
