Let's talk 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒉 routine... 🚿 The importance of quality shampoo is JUST as important as the quality of the haircolor when it comes to color longevity. So what are the big no-no’s? Here are a few big ones that can quickly deteriorate a beautiful color service: 𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝. So many shampoos contain high levels of sulfates, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), which are cheap cleansers that strip the hair of everything. Sulfates not only remove natural oils but also haircolor molecules, leading to quicker color fading. You want to look for gentle surfactants. 💚 𝐍𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Unlike products specifically designed for color-treated hair, many shampoos lack ingredients that help protect and preserve color. These include UV filters and antioxidants that can shield the hair from environmental factors known to cause color fading. 🌤️ 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Maintaining color-treated hair requires maintaining the health of the hair with moisturizing and repairing ingredients, such as natural oils, proteins, and fatty acids. Without this nourishment, color cannot stay attached to the hair structure, leading to dullness and faster fadage. 💧 And be careful. Products can be marketed to be “color protecting” but simply throw in a dash of a hydrating ingredient to solidify the claim. So, check those ingredient panels! These nourishing oils, butters, and extracts should be at the TOP of the ingredient list (equating to higher potency). 🌼🥝🥥🥑🌾
