There are some people who entertain us, some who inspire us, and then there are those rare souls who touch generations without ever knowing just how many lives they’ve changed.
Dolly Parton was one of those people. ❤️

Her music, kindness, generosity, humor, and the way she continually used her success to lift others up created a legacy far greater than music. She reminded us that you can reach incredible heights without forgetting where you came from and that true success is measured by how many people you help along the way.

But as a hairstylist, there is another part of Dolly’s legacy that has always meant something incredibly special to me.

Steel Magnolias showed an entire generation that a salon is so much more than a place where hair gets done.

Truvy wasn’t just doing hair. She was listening, encouraging, comforting, laughing, & sometimes helping someone walk out feeling a little more beautiful and a whole lot stronger than when they walked in.

And isn’t that what we do?

As hairstylists, people sit in our chairs and trust us with far more than their hair. They bring us heartbreak, excitement, insecurity, celebrations, new beginnings,& sometimes simply a bad day.

We can change how someone feels when they look in the mirror.

We can give someone confidence before a new job. Help them feel beautiful after a difficult season. Celebrate a new chapter with them. Sometimes we’re there through weddings, babies, divorces, losses & everything in between.

We don’t just change hair. Sometimes, we change the way someone sees themselves.

That is the part of this profession that makes it so special.

Thank you, dollyparton, for giving us Truvy. For showing generations of hairstylists that the chair can be a place of comfort, friendship, laughter, healing, and transformation.

That is the magic of a hairstylist.
