Most women don’t need compounded hormones to get something that works for them. I’m definitely not against compounding. I think it’s a fantastic option and will use it based on patient preference and situations that require something we don’t have on the market. However. The idea that women in some practices are being told that only compounded hormones are bioidentical is not true. We have lots of great options available that are typically covered by insurance which makes hormone therapy more affordable for most patients.
If you struggle with perfectionism, this is for you. Sometimes perfectionism is what keeps us from putting 1 foot in front of another, and being consistent. And you know what? Consistency actually wins every time.

Hi, I’m Kate, a functional medicine nurse practitioner caring for women in North Carolina and the Birmingham, Alabama area. I’m Menopause Society certified and also certified through the Institute for functional medicine. I’m passionate about delivering quality care to women, whether it’s careful and intentional hormone replacement therapy or supporting PCOS, restoring gut health, reducing autoimmunity, stabilizing mass cells and beyond. My goal is to bring women to feeling more like themselves again, and to rest or balance in their health. I think prescriptions and supplements are both great tools, but we never want to forget to focus on the foundations first. If you are in Alabama or North Carolina, and looking for care like this, I would love to connect. You can find out more at hormonewellnessmd.com.
What should we focus on in perimenopause and menopause for nutrition? Controlled calories (not too many extra calories) and fiber plus protein. The data strong supports a Mediterranean type diet, which is rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and seeds and healthy fats.
