Disheartening Cosmetology statistics… the honest truth:
• Roughly 28% of new graduates quit after their very first year.
• Nearly 56% to 60% of hairdressers leave the profession by year three.
• By the fifth year, an additional 16% drop out.

Ultimately, only about 30% of cosmetology graduates are still actively working in the industry by Year 5.

This year I celebrate 30 years behind the chair and my annual earnings land me in the top 10% of individual salon earners in America. Has it been hard work? YES! Is it extremely competitive? Also YES! Has it been worth it? ABSOLUTELY!

Lately I’ve become frustrated with the attitude and perception that salon professionals are somehow not valid contributors to the US Economy… or that it’s not possible to reach a level of success that rivals other fields. To this I call BS! I’m proof positive that those claims completely lack merit. For me, entering the beauty industry when I did was one of the smartest and most profitable decisions I ever made… hairstyling saved my life! Young professionals deserve to be valued and need to be nurtured. I honestly believe that our industry is one of the few bullet proof sectors of the American workforce. AI will never be able to replace what hairstylists. should be ashamed of themselves… worst education for cosmetology in the USA..
