“Why is my hair not growing? I feel like so much is falling out! Should I just chop it all off? Why am I losing my hair?”
.
I receive these questions a lot, so let’s answer some of the concerns👇👇
.
.
Humans naturally shed 50-100 hairs per day. This means if you are only washing and brushing your hair 2x per week, there most likely will be a lot in the drain 🥴 and your brush. This is completely normal. It may seem like a lot, but remember if your hair is past chin length it will most likely get tangled in each other and not she’d on its own without brushing.
.
.
Humans have a shedding season. Yes, it’s true. We shed just like dogs! The highest amount of hair count is in the telogen phase which is in July. There is also another slight peak around April. The most shedding will occur around 100 days after this. Most people will experience a larger amount of hair loss in late summer/early fall. Don’t worry, it will grow back.
.
.
Scalp health is so important! Don’t forget the minerals and products that make color look dingy also build up on the scalp. This can cause clogged follicles, itchy dry scalp or oily scalp and will not produce healthy hair. It’s important to keep up with clarifying and scalp scrubs at least once a week. Healthy scalp = healthier hair.
.
.
Hormones play a huge role in hair health. The thyroid is responsible for hair follicle function, so if your numbers are off, hair growth and loss will be greatly affected. Getting these numbers checked is so important if you are experiencing an abnormal amount of hair loss.
.
.
Vitamin deficiencies may be affecting you hair. Biotin, b12, fish oil, and iron are crucial for strong hair growth. Supplementing with these can help strengthen your hair and nails. I find it best to supplement separately as the amount you need to take is generally higher than a regular hair vitamin supplement. Again, please consult your physician first.
.
.
Post pregnancy. You most likely will experience a great amount of hair loss after having a baby. All your nutrients have gone to grow a human! During pregnancy the rise in hormone levels delay your hair cycle.
