Struggling with flyaways in your photos?
Flyaways are one of the most common challenges in salon photography.
Even when the hair looks flawless in real life, the camera picks up every tiny little strand. The good news? There are simple ways to control it before you even take the photo.
One of my favorite methods is using a boar bristle brush + hairspray. Instead of spraying the hair directly, spray the brush.
Then gently smooth the top layer of the hair, focusing especially near the crown and the hairline. This technique tames flyaways without making the hair look stiff or weighed down.
If you don’t have a boar bristle brush, try this:
⟶ Lightly mist your hands with hairspray or even a light pomade
⟶ Then very gently glide your hands over the surface of the hair
This helps control static and flyaways while keeping texture intact.
Also, pay attention to your background and lighting. Harsh lighting emphasizes frizz, while natural or diffused light helps the hair look softer and smoother.
A little prep goes a long way, and the better your photos look in camera, the less editing you’ll need later.

If your photos aren’t popping the way you want, chances are it’s the lighting. Great hair deserves great light, here’s how to nail it every time.
1️⃣ Natural Light
If you’ve got a window or a door, use it! Natural light is soft, flattering, and makes hair color pop. It’s hands down the easiest and most inexpensive way to take your photos to the next level.
2️⃣ Two Video Lights
No window? No problem. Video lights are your best friend. And here’s the thing, two lights are better than one. Doubling up helps even out shadows and keeps the focus on the hair.
3️⃣ Speed Light
Still stuck? A speed light is clutch. Just remember: bounce it off a neutral-colored wall or ceiling. That little trick softens everything so your photos look polished.

Imagine, I ask you if you’d like to choose a crystal to hold while you relax. Each stone has its own meaning and is filled with Reiki and love. It’s not necessary, but it does help add to the heightened experience. I will then help guide you back into the shampoo bowl, I cover your eyes with an amazing Jade Crystal mask that gently lays over your eyes. The Jade stone is a cooling stone, so it is cooling to the touch and slightly weighted. This will help you close your eyes and really take this time for YOU!! I then apply a deep conditioning treatment, which is great for added moisture and protein. I then proceed with a scalp massage that’s designed to help hit major pressure points to help aid in relaxation and stress relief. After the scalp massage, I will apply I hot towel that is infused with an essential oil blend just for you for a few minutes before we finally conclude the service.
This is by far one of my all-time favorite services to perform. It’s such a sacred and powerful time in which I can help relieve some stress and focus on you. Hey all!🎄Happy December!
I want to say thank you to all my my customers for continuing to book appointments with me during these crazy times! I will continue to do everything I normally do to keep you safe and looking lovely. As of now I am not offering facials due to the new restrictions, however I am still doing back facials, body treatments and waxing. (Masks can easily be worn during these services) Aiming at January 1'st for facials. Fingers crossed!
If you've never had a back facial please schedule one. Picture a quiet room, soft music, essential oils, heated bed.....and for an hour I cleanse and scrub the skin on your back, massage sore muscles, apply a hydrating or deep cleansing mask and massage your feet..plus warm towels, hot stones...it's goooood. These are scary times…😷
As numbers continue to surge, here’s what I’m doing to help keep you safe while sitting in my chair at girl Friday.
Upon arrival, I will have you virtually check-in using the varago app. I will then send a message through the app when it’s clear and safe to come into the salon. Upon entering the salon, make sure to have your mask that goes behind your ears on. I will be there to greet you at the door, so you don’t have to touch the door handle. There is hand sanitizer that you are welcome to use at any time.
At my station, you will notice a box with your name on it. This box has everything I will need in order to complete your service. Once finished, everything is put back into the box and sealed until the end of the night when I do a very extensive sanitation. This process has helped ensure no cross contamination and peace of mind of my current salon guests.
At checkout, it’s very important to have your phone in hand and ready to go, as I’ll send you a hyperlink that will open the checkout screen on your phone…best part, NO touching any device but your own!! This is another part of my system that I’m proud to say has helped keep peace of mind to those in my chair!
After we checkout, I will walk you to the door and open it as you leave so you don’t have to touch the door handle. I then wipe down and sanitize my station and anything close by that may have been touched during our time together.
I might not be able to predict how long we will be able to remain open. Although, what I can do is promise you that, for as long as we are open, I will keep you as safe as I possibly can while you’re visiting me at girl Friday. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your continued love and support during this crazy time as we navigate this unfamiliar territory together.
