There are moments in life when someone says something so unnecessarily cruel that it forces you to pause—not because their words have power over you, but because you’re left wondering what kind of pain, anger, or bitterness leads a person to speak to another human being that way.

Recently, Ive been receiving messages from someone who has followed my work for a long time. Someone who has watched, participated, and engaged with this community. What struck me was not the criticism itself. Criticism is a part of life. Disagreement is a part of life. What struck me was the deliberate cruelty behind it.

As I read those words, I found myself reflecting not on what was said, but on everything it took for me to become the woman reading them.

People often see the finished version of a person. They see confidence. They see success. They see resilience. What they rarely see are the years spent fighting to become that person.

They do not see the rejection.

They do not see the fear.

They do not see the loneliness.

They do not see the countless moments spent questioning whether the struggle is worth it.

As a transgender woman, I know what it means to have my existence debated by people who have never lived a single day in my shoes. I know what it feels like to be judged before being understood. I know what it means to have others decide who I am without ever taking the time to know me.

Yet through every obstacle, every setback, every painful lesson, I endured.

I endured because I believed there would come a day when I could live openly, honestly, and authentically.

I endured because I refused to allow the opinions of others to define my worth.

I endured because there is strength in choosing yourself, even when the world makes that choice difficult.

That is why messages rooted in degradation and contempt no longer have the power they once might have had.

Not because they are harmless.

But because I have survived far worse.

I have survived loss.

I have survived rejection.

I have survived having to rebuild my life more than once.

I have survived being underestimated, dismissed, and reduced to labels that could never capture the fullness of who I am.

And after surviving all of that, I learned something important:

A person’s cruelty is rarely a reflection of the person receiving it.

It is a reflection of the person carrying it.

What makes this moment especially significant is that it arrives during Pride Month.

Pride is often misunderstood.

For some, it is reduced to celebration, color, and visibility.

But Pride was born from struggle.

Pride exists because generations of LGBTQ+ people refused to disappear.

Pride exists because people who were told they should be ashamed chose instead to stand in the light.

Pride is resilience.

Pride is survival.

Pride is the unwavering belief that every human being deserves dignity.

That is why cruelty feels so out of place during a time dedicated to authenticity, community, and acceptance.

Yet perhaps it also serves as a reminder.

A reminder that there is still work to do.

A reminder that empathy remains a choice.

A reminder that kindness remains a choice.

A reminder that humanity remains a choice.

The choice I have made is simple.

I will not allow bitterness to define me.

I will not answer cruelty with cruelty.

I will not surrender my peace to someone else’s anger.

Instead, I will continue doing what I have always done.

I will continue showing up.

I will continue creating community.

I will continue speaking honestly.

I will continue encouraging others to embrace who they are.

I will continue living openly and authentically.

Because the greatest act of resistance has never been hatred.

It has always been authenticity.

It has always been resilience.

It has always been refusing to become hardened by the very things that tried to break you.

To those who continue to support, encourage, and uplift others, thank you.

You are proof that compassion still exists.

You are proof that community still matters.

You are proof that kindness still has a place in this world.

And to those who choose cruelty, I sincerely hope you find healing.

Because peace is not found in tearing others down.

Peace is found in finally learning to build yourself up.

I know who I am.

I know what it took to become this woman.

I know the battles fought in silence.

I know the courage required to stand in my truth.

And because I know those things, I also know this:

No hateful message, no degrading comment, and no act of cruelty can ever take away what it took a lifetime to build.

That is my Pride.

That is my strength.

And that is something no one can ever diminish.

Field's Edge Community Care Pantry 05/27/2026

Hey Ohio friends, it’s Admin Heather! Can you please do me a favor and share this post! I met this amazing lady at work today, who’s trying to get her food pantry up and running! https://www.facebook.com/share/17UbHsMSzo/?mibextid=wwXIfr

She also has a group and you can donate as well! Here is the information: Donations Being Accepted Now!!!!

We know that food insecurity is not always caused by lack of effort. And using traditional pantries doesn’t always meet people where they are.

Many families face barriers like:

• No reliable transportation

• High gas prices

• Long work hours

• Health challenges

• Limited pantry hours that don’t fit working schedules

That’s why Field’s Edge Community Pantry is building a different kind of pantry — one focused on dignity, accessibility, and community care.

✨ Online ordering

✨ Flexible delivery options

✨ Delivery to homes, workplaces, dialysis clinics, schools, hospitals, daycares & more.

We will serve our neighbors within a 7-mile radius of Lake Township, including:

• East Toledo (east of the Maumee River)

• Oregon

• Rossford

• Northwood

• Walbridge

• Millbury

• Moline

• Genoa

• Curtice

• Clay Center

• Martin

But we cannot do this alone. We cannot open this pantry and start serving our neighbors until it is stocked.

We are currently seeking:

🥫 FOOD DONATIONS

Nonperishable food items, pantry staples, hygiene products, and family essentials.

🤝 COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Businesses, dialysis clinics, churches, schools, doctors offices, daycares, and organizations willing to:

• Host a donation collection box

• Serve as a delivery/drop-off location

• Partner with us to help reach families in need

Together, we can remove barriers and bring nourishment, hope, and dignity directly into our community.

If you would like to donate or partner with us, please contact:

“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God.”
