If I have felt anything in the last few dark years, it has been a sort of cloistered observation, a time of waiting, listening, observing and not as much being or doing. Something of repose and a lot of sleep. But deep within, something awakens and asks now for its due. Where I had thought not to act because the last years have not contained much of substance, I now feel that substantial thing in me calling, pulling, insisting. And so I will follow.

I want the salt-shift of sea, smoke and fire in my veins, to toil in the earth and feel the power of sweat within. And I crave the savage magic that I am, that has been slumbering too long. “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

I look around and I see it in the eyes of every woman I pass - no longer a timid tumultuousness, but something feral and wild and alive that waits for reclamation.

Reclamation comes from not going back, but awakening. We lose ourselves in the palace of dreams, and there is deep learning there, too. But waking up requires that we apply what came to us in that dreaming realm to the reality of what is so that we can reclaim the world anew. If we have set aside bits of our lives that we now see are part of our spiritual fire, then it is more the spirit of sankofa - the pearl held in our mouths while we are going forward that came from our past. Be fierce indeed from this understanding taking root.

And I don’t know about you, but I feel it deep:

It is time. It is time beyond time.

Rest. Buy yourself flowers. Eat fresh fruit (the brain runs on glucose). Take a walk. Focus on taking in only those things which awaken your soul. Soak in a tub filled with flower petals, essential oils and mineral salts. Have a weekend blackout on all things media. Surround yourself with the provocation of all things sensual; soft, decadent fabrics, whatever moves your Spirit; music that you love, scents that enthrall you, books that feed your enthusiasm, beautiful art.
