Had a little visitor today before my clients🥰

Teaching our children safe, nurturing touch is such a beautiful way to connect and encourage a regulated nervous system. Working with children is something I would love to bring into my practice one day, introducing families to the many benefits of massage therapy for children. Some of the benefits are:

•Promotes relaxation and calming of the nervous system. Slow, predictable touch can help settle the body's stress response and promote a calmer state. This is especially helpful for kids with ADHD or neurodivergent children that may benefit from a calmer mind (i got 3🙋🏻‍♀️)

•Relieves muscular tension. Between growing pains, sports, heavy backpacks & tech neck, relief from these pains can be reduced

•Builds body awareness. I love this benefit for kids because they learn how to become more aware of sensations in their body's, making it easier to communicate when and where they feel tension or something "off".

•Encourage healthy boundaries. When a child is getting a massage, they are in charge and they should always give verbal consent. This is tremendous for them to learn they can say no to something and be heard, request change at any time, ask questions and make choices. This is valuable in creating health bodily autonomy.

•Positive Sensory Input. Children receiving consistent, predictable pressure is very grounding. The input signals to the brain that they are safe.

•Supports emotional wellbeing and the feeling of being cared for.

This can all be done by you, the parent, creating a stronger bond and connection with your child. Even with a parent, consent is still so important as the decision is always up to the child on whether they want to be touched or not. Being intentional is key and being in tune to what your child is wanting or needing in that moment.

Trauma-informed massage isn’t a “type” of massage. Think of it as the lens through which I practice massage therapy. Swedish massage, deep tissue, cupping, hot stones—those are techniques and modalities. Trauma-informed care is about HOW I provide them. It influences how I communicate with you, how I approach touch, how I establish consent and predictability, how I respond to your body’s cues, and how I consider your nervous system throughout the session.

Think of it like hospitality in a restaurant. Hospitality isn’t something you order off the menu, it’s part of how everything on the menu is served.
The same is true here. Every massage I provide can be trauma-informed without every massage being focused on trauma. For some clients, that simply means receiving a massage in an environment where choice, communication, safety, and autonomy are prioritized.

For others, the session may intentionally focus more deeply on nervous-system regulation, reconnecting with the body, creating safety around touch, and supporting their healing process.

Trauma-informed care isn’t another service on my menu. It’s the philosophy behind how I practice. 🌊

Headaches don’t always start in your head. 💆‍♀️

Tension in your neck and shoulders, specifically upper traps and suboccipital muscles at the base of the skull, can contribute to that familiar neck tension, pressure, and headache discomfort.

And tension can build slowly over time. Stress, emotional strain, and the things we carry day after day can sometimes show up physically—tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, shallow breathing, or muscles that struggle to let go.

That’s where nervous system regulation matters. Massage and therapeutic touch can be one piece of helping the body shift out of that constant “on” state.

You can also support regulation through slow breathing, gentle movement, grounding, time outside, quality sleep, and intentional rest.

Sometimes the goal isn’t just releasing a tight muscle—it’s helping your whole system feel safe enough to soften. 🌊🤍

It’s Nice to Be Kneaded. 😉

This technique helps lift, roll, and compress the muscles to increase circulation, reduce tension, and improve tissue mobility. It can help ease soreness, encourage relaxation, and bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles.

Whether you’re recovering from workouts, sitting at a desk all day, or simply feeling stiff and achy, sometimes your muscles just need a little extra attention.

Because after all… it’s nice to be kneaded. 😊

Had a blast at the Health & Wellness Expo connecting with fellow professionals and speaking with members of the community about what we do at Shore To Heal...also enjoyed giving out some sample massages!

While this wasn't a "hired" spot today, just a reminder that i am available for private events for chair massage 🙃💆🏻‍♀️

Your neck remembers what your mind has learned to push through.

The tension we carry in our neck and shoulders isn’t always from poor posture or sleeping wrong. Sometimes it’s the accumulation of unanswered emails, rushing from one obligation to the next, holding back tears, staying strong for everyone else, or living through experiences that taught our bodies to stay on alert.

Our nervous system doesn’t always distinguish between a stressful day and an old wound that never had the chance to fully heal. Over time, that constant state of protection can show up as tight shoulders, jaw clenching, headaches, limited range of motion, and persistent neck pain.

Massage isn’t just about working on muscles—it’s about creating a space where the body feels safe enough to soften its guard. When safety, choice, and presence are introduced, the body often begins to release tension it has been holding for far longer than we realize.

Sometimes the neck isn’t asking to be fixed. It’s asking to feel supported.

DID YOU KNOW...you, the client, will always be in charge of your own session? With client-centered care, it becomes a wonderful opportunity to heal parts of you that you've been fighting your entire life. Working with trauma means regaining your sense of autonomy by being in control, accepting and feeling a sense of safety, feeling validated. In all of this, you learn predictability, which IS safety, giving you an opportunity to self soothe. Trauma-informed massage gives the client an opportunity to say no, to set boundaries and to heal from experiences that have left them feeling powerless, out of control and broken. All while receiving an act of care that brings your body out of fight or flight.

If you have a complicated history with touch, or have lived through traumatic experience(s), a trauma-informed approach through massage has the ability to access parts of you that maybe consciously you've buried, but the body remembers. Learning to regulate doesn't have to be done alone. In fact, connection with others and co-regulating is a beautiful experience with high levels of success in the healing process. ❤️‍🩹
