I saw a post from a house cleaner who had three cancellations in one week, and it got me thinking…This isn’t just a salon problem. It’s a small business problem. When someone cancels at the last minute or doesn’t show up, that appointment time is often impossible to fill. For many of us, that’s lost income. That’s why so many service providers require deposits, a card on file, or have cancellation policies. I personally require a card on file, but I’m curious…As a client, do deposits make you more likely to keep your appointment because you have a little skin in the game?
All appointment based businesses-I’d love to hear from everyone!

Yes, your technical skills matter.
But if you want loyal clients, focus on more than the service. Anyone can learn a technique. Not everyone can create a feeling. A feeling of comfort, trust and of being seen! That’s the kind of luxury clients come back for!
Aside from a good shampoo, the foundation of every great blowout starts with the rough dry! I always tell my students that hair should be about 60-80% dry before you ever pick up a round brush. One of the biggest mistakes I see is people rough drying by blowing the hair all over the place. That’s how you create frizz! Instead, direct the airflow at a diagonal angle (on low-medium heat) down the hair shaft and use your hands…not a brush to control the hair as you dry it. Once the hair is mostly dry, that’s when you can go in with your round brush and start creating smoothness, tension, and shape! Follow me for more blowout tips and tricks! Want better blowouts?
