My heart is heavy and my soul is tired.
But I will continue to fight. I will continue to love. I will continue to teach my children the beauty of diversity. For without diversity, without love, we are nothing.
I want to share a story with you- I have a 13 year old son I am trying to raise to be a good man. Not the easiest task from a single mom who has never been a man, but still I try. Every. Single. Day. I have a 17 year old daughter I’m trying to raise to be a strong woman. Slightly easier, being a woman myself, but still a challenge every.single.day. As my children did not come with manuals and it’s my first time.
We talk, we discuss, we cry over the events in the world. My world stop moving when my son said
“I know they said stop- but why didn’t anyone push that cop off of him?” To which my daughter responded- “maybe they were afraid of getting shot” and the phrase that stoped my world- his response:
“But aren’t you supposed to help save a life, even if you could get hurt? Isn’t that what humans are supposed to do?”
Read it again. And now just once more.
Humanity by definition means “human beings collectively”
It is also the word for qualities that make us human- the ability to love, compassion.
Examples of humanity include: kindness, mercy, sympathy
The power of humanity is described as the strength of individual commitment and the force of collective action.
That’s not my opinion. That is the definition. We must protect our humanity.
