Common signs of an unhealthy scalp I can see under the dermascope:
- Build up around the hair follicles and on the scalp
- Redness/inflammation
- Excess Oil
- Psoriasis, scales of dry skin
What an unhealthy scalp can feel and look like to you:
- Itching
- Pain or sensitive areas
- Hot to the touch
- Dandruff (which is oil flakes)
- Dry skin, flakes
- Oily scalp when you just shampooed
First step, schedule your Hair Loss and Scalp Evaluation. We will discuss your lifestyle, health history, and look at your scalp under the dermascope. From there I will give you a personalized treatment plan, which may include a Scalp Facial.
Part 2: How to shampoo your hair the right way
This is one thing that I see the most when I look at peoples scalp under the dermascope, they aren't shampooing properly.
Couple of things can be happening:
1. They aren't scrubbing at their scalp well
2. They aren't getting the shampoo applied all over ( the crown is the most neglected area)
3. They aren't shampooing enough. If you skip multiple days between shampoos, you probably need to shampoo twice. And that's ok!
This video will break down how to shampoo properly, where to focus, and how I focus the shampoo just on the scalp.
Are you shampooing correctly?
Scalp massage.
It doesn't have to be anything fancy. In this video I'm massaging an oil into my scalp. I will even give myself a scalp massage while watching tv.
1. It's so relaxing
2. It's helping with circulation and bringing blood flow, which brings nutrients to your hair follicle.
This is something that is great to add daily and in conjunction with other treatments.
Should you shampoo? This is a 2 part video.
If you are finding yourself reaching for dry shampoo, shampoo your hair. If you use it occasionally than that's ok, but if it's frequent you may need to wash more.
If you are having scalp issues, oily, itchy? Then shampoo.
However, in the video I mentioned burning. Let's check that out, that is not normal. Nor is pain.
If you are having scalp concerns, let's get you in for a Scalp Evaluation.
Hair growth is often about more than just what you use at home.
In-office treatments can provide more advanced support through targeted growth factors and scalp-focused treatments designed to support a healthier environment for hair growth.
Combined with personalized at-home care, this creates a more intentional approach based on your specific needs.
Hair loss isn’t one-size-fits-all, and treatment shouldn’t be either.

Stress can definitely effect your hair.
I have shared the ways your body reacts to stress, how it shows up with your hair, and some resources to support your body with stress.
We will all feel stress at some point, and it's impossible to not. However, we want to practice daily stress support and make our body more stress resilient.
Trust me not only will you thank me for this, but your hair will too.
Are you starting to notice more hair shedding lately?
Have you had your blood work done recently?
Two markers I suggest looking at are Ferritin and Vitamin D. When these are low they will contribute to hair shedding.
Ferritin you want at a minimum of 70 and Vitamin D you want a minimum of 50.
If these are above their optimal levels, It's time to look deeper. From there I would suggest scheduling your Hair and Scalp Evaluation.
Healthy hair is on everyone's list this year. I'm sharing all of my top tips ⬇️
1. Turn down the heat on your hot tools. Especially if you have fine hair and/or highlights. Take smaller sections on lower heat.
2. Always use a heat protectant
3. If you use a blow brush and it's super hot, don't use. You will be frying your hair.
4. Don't wash your hair with super hot water (if your skin is red, it's WAY too hot). The hotter the water, the more it strips the moisture from your skin and hair, making it more dry.
5. Deep condition weekly
6. Be gentle when brushing or combing wet hair, it's at its most fragile state.
7. Don't go to bed with wet hair, it's super fragile and your hair can get musty and you can irritate your scalp.
8. If you are having a dry, oily, itchy, or irritated scalp your hair will be affected. Book your scalp evaluation or scalp facial.
9. Eat a diet that has adequate protein and a variety of plants (ie: fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts)
10. Stay hydrated. You may need electrolytes and/or a pinch of Celtic salt.
Which number are you starting with today?
I don’t just look at your hair. I look at the full picture.
Hair loss is often influenced by multiple factors, which is why it’s important to look beyond just one piece.
By looking at patterns, timeline, lifestyle, internal factors, scalp health, and family history, we can better understand what may be contributing.
From there, your treatment protocol is personalized and designed specifically for you.
If something feels off, you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’m here to help guide you through it.

Myth: It’s genetic, so there’s nothing you can do.
While genetics can play a role in hair loss, it doesn’t mean you’re out of options.
With the right approach, it’s often possible to slow down progression, support healthier hair growth, and in some cases, regrow hair.
Starting early can make a big difference.
If you’ve been told it’s “just genetic,” there may still be more that can be done. I’m here to help you understand your options.
