Seeing all these trending 80s photos got me thinking… electrolysis was already old by 1980

Electrolysis dates all the way back to the 1870s (like wut 😮) when Dr. Charles Michel used an electric current to destroy hair follicles while treating ingrown eyelashes. Over time, the equipment and techniques improved, but the basic idea stayed the same: target the follicle itself for permanent hair removal.
And here’s the wildest part: while laser technology was becoming more mainstream and getting a lot more attention in the 1980s, laser hair removal as we know it didn’t really take off until the 1990s. So by the time laser entered the beauty conversation, electrolysis had already been around for more than 100 years. 😏

The 80s gave us big hair, blue eyeshadow, and perms… but electrolysis had already been permanently removing unwanted hair for generations.

A little vintage, a little science, and a whole lot of staying power. Some things really do stand the test of time.
