The Indian Aesthetician

This is little me the girl who always felt the world a little differently, long before I ever had the words for it.

I have something called Nonverbal Learning Disability (NVLD). It basically means I’ve always had big thoughts and deep feelings, but turning those thoughts into the “right” words hasn’t always come easily.

Growing up, I didn’t always feel understood. On the outside, I looked outgoing, friendly, and talkative. But on the inside, I was trying to make sense of a world that didn’t always make sense back.

Being in a big Indian community made that even harder. People assumed my communication style was about them, when in reality, my brain just works differently. And as a lifelong people pleaser, I spent years trying to say everything perfectly so nobody misunderstood me.

I’m sharing this because I know I’m not the only one who has felt different, misunderstood, or out of place even as an adult.

Growing up, I watched both of them in what felt like two completely different worlds, feeling embarrassed living in a country that I believed didn't understand my culture.

Their inspiring journey showcases the beauty of unity as they bridge cultures and break barriers, proving that love knows no boundaries. Embracing their Indian heritage with pride, their love story becomes a testament to the strength of diversity and the magic that happens when two worlds collide.

And just like them, I'm on a different journey as an Indian girl living in America, breaking what some might call the generational curse.

I've come to realize that there is nothing to be embarrassed about no matter what journey you are in or what culture you come from.

We are one 🌍❤️

During my recent trip to India I came to the realization how trade school careers (including my own as an aesthetician) in the US are much more highly respected over here than over there.

To the naked eye you can see the different class systems and how these jobs are left for the people who are trying to make ends meet.

I am grateful to live in a country where my career is appreciated and respected but I am sure there are many many young adults like me in India, America or anywhere in the world, who don’t get the opportunity to fulfill their dreams or their true calling.

Weather it be how it looks to society or what “school” they have gone too.

I always knew I wanted a career in the beauty industry, but never in a million years thought I would get the opportunity to pursue it.

The amazing people that I have met on my journey as an esthetician would not have been possible if it wasn’t for me listening to my heart, stepping out of my comfort zone and doing what was best for me.

The times I feel less than is when I compare myself to others, but we each have our unique journeys as my mother says not all five fingers are the same!

My dad will always be that one person who truly understands who I am, who has always stuck by my side.

Theres nobody in my life that will ever be like my dad. He is truly one of a kind.

Happy Diwali ✨🪔

This picture makes me feel so happy and proud to be an Indian. All of these women are successful Indian entrepreneurs who came together to celebrate the beautiful festival of lights, Diwali.

Growing up I was never proud of being Indian. I was always one of the people who stuck out because my skin was not the same color as majority of my class. Or the food I took to school looked or smelled weird to the other kids. Looking back I would tell my younger self that so many people will learn about your culture and appreciate how beautiful it truly is.

These women all brought Indian culture into their respective professions which helped to carve out a place for our culture within the mainstream media and they inspire me to do the same as The Indian Aesthetician.
