Whoah .....
Never had an Amaryllis grow this high.

Before having our first baby, we took a car seat course to learn all things about car seat safety. We knew nothing! In addition to the course we read our car seat manual AND each of our car manuals to ensure we were fully prepared for installation, proper adjustments, and could feel confident in the safety of our girls.

What we learned while immersing ourselves in car seat safety is how it is ✨UNSAFE✨ for a toddler to eat in their car seat. The positioning simply isn’t ideal for eating (think about a high chair and proper high chair positioning: hips are at 90 degrees, back is upright, knees are 90 degrees, and feet are supportive). A car seat is not even close to that!

But here’s the thing… we didn’t follow that safety guideline. 😬 We offered snacks to our toddler in the car. What’s wrong with a few yogurt bites to avoid a meltdown, am I right?! So this post is laced with ZERO JUDGEMENT. I was there. I get it. I understand the value of a good toddler bribe and the desperation of a happy toddler in a car. I get it.

…until we had a lil’ experience that completely overrides any of that convenience. We were driving on the highway when Emilia was around 14 months old. She was actually NOT eating in her car seat at the time, but she started to gag. We realized she was vomiting but couldn’t get her vomit out! She was essentially choking on her vomit in the car seat. We immediately had to pull over, remove her from the car seat, and hold her upright so she could vomit. She was so scared and we were so scared. It showed us that if she’s not positioned to swallow or gag properly, then she most certainly shouldn’t be eating. That was not worth anymore snacks in the car seat.

I share this to share our experience and let you know that it’s not just a guideline that doesn’t make sense: it’s a very real safety concern. And again, this isn’t to shame. I was there, but we have explained that snacks aren’t for in the car and we stuck to that. 💛 06/07/2023

VERY IMPORTANT FOR MOM'S-TO-BE: ❤️
"There's a dangerous lie circulating on social media involving the Vitamin K shot that should be given to all newborns right after birth.
Vitamin K is a necessary component of clotting factors, substances used to form clots. Without it, babies can hemorrhage anywhere in their bodies, including in their brains or other vital organs. FACT: one out of five babies who bleed die. Short of death, they can suffer permanent and devastating damage.
According to the CDC, all babies are born with very low levels of vitamin K, because it doesn't cross the placenta well. (And you can't count on breast milk; it doesn't contain enough of the nutrient.) So all newborns have to get vitamin K from another source: A shot. Newborns who do not get a vitamin K shot are 81 times more likely to develop severe bleeding than those who get the shot. This danger can last for the first 6 months of a newborn's life; after that, they generally are getting enough Vitamin K from food.
Today, such shots are so strongly advised that they are virtually routine. EXCEPT: There's a stupid narrative being peddled by the ignorant that the Vitamin K shot causes cancer, causes leukemia, causes jaundice.... (that's from the liver - beware)
The people spreading these falsehoods also are calling the shot a "vaccine," which it is NOT! This leads one to suspect that they are part of the anti-vax crowd. How do we get through to these folks, since they are so determinedly anti-science and anti-expertise and anti-facts? Pray they don't endanger their newborns with this nonsense."

😁 I put the picture of the baby-tummy in just as a reminder to new mommies. 🥰 ❤️
