Beard itch is incredibly common, especially during those first few weeks. The good news is that it’s usually temporary and, with the right routine, completely manageable.

The more you understand what’s happening beneath your beard, the more confident you’ll become throughout your journey.

A comfortable beard is a beard you’ll actually enjoy growing.

One of the most rewarding parts of what I do is helping men realize that what they’re experiencing is completely normal.

For many new beardsmen, the early weeks can feel discouraging. A little itch, a few patches or an awkward stage can make it seem like your beard just isn’t meant to be. More often than not, it simply takes time.

Understanding your beard is just as important as caring for it. The more you learn about how your beard grows, the more confident you’ll become through every stage of the journey.

When in doubt, grow it out.

One of the questions I hear often is, “How do I apply beard balm?”

The answer depends on your beard.

During the summer, I keep my beard shorter and more refined, so I use a smaller amount than I would during the winter. The goal isn’t to coat your beard in product. It’s to use just enough to add the control and shape you’re looking for.

In today’s routine, I’m using Maui Gold Premium Beard Balm, back for its 11th summer with its signature blend of lemon, lime and coconut.

Every beard is different. Learn yours, adjust your routine accordingly and you’ll get far better results than simply following the same routine year-round.

How you apply beard oil matters just as much as the beard oil you choose.

In today’s video, I’m walking through my application routine while sharing the story behind Wildwood, the very first beard oil I created back in 2014.

As an Eagle Scout and lifelong outdoorsman, I wanted Wildwood to capture the feeling of walking through the forest after a fresh rain. That inspiration became a blend of cedarwood, pine, eucalyptus and fir that has remained a Beard Baron classic for more than a decade.

Summer beard season means longer days, ocean air and time outdoors.

One thing I’ve always enjoyed about having a beard during the summer is that it becomes part of the experience. Beach days, cookouts, evenings on the patio and everything in between.

Just remember that summer can be demanding on a beard. More sun, more water and more exposure to the elements often means it’s time to pay a little extra attention to hydration and beard care.
