"When Mother's Day Hurts"
My Mom died almost 6 months ago. And that's the first time I've ever written those words.
She was young, (too young) and in many ways her death feels entirely unfair. Unfair to her, to me, to my family, to my little sister, to my dad... and to the world. I think of her every hour of every day and replay her last day on this earth in my head every night before I fall asleep. I think about calling her multiple times a day, and each time I do, I feel like I've been punched in the gut. I miss her more than I ever thought that I could.
My Mom died, and this year Mother's Day just HURTS. Not that little pang in your chest you get when you think of something upsetting, but a deep, guttural, indescribable pain. The kind that weighs you down and sends you into random hysterics.
The last several weeks of commercials and greeting card aisles and blog posts and influencer marketing have felt like salt in my very fresh wound. I've logged off of social media apps, gone dark on friends, and told my husband that I can't even speak the words "Mother's Day". I own a business that caters to and celebrates Motherhood, yet I want to hide in a hole until this weekend is over.
I've started countless blog posts on this topic, and each time I find myself stuck. So I'll just say it here...
If you are a Mom who is hurting this Mother's Day, please know that you are not alone. Maybe you lost your own mom, or are walking through infertility or the pain of losing a child. Whatever the reason, it's okay to just call it as it is: painful. Sometimes Mother's Day hurts.
And, if you know someone who might be feeling this deep pain as Mother's Day approaches, let them know you see them. Send flowers or a card if you are able. Check in on them. Give them space if they need it, but let them know you are there. You might not get a thank you right away, because your hurting friend might be barely getting by. But she'll appreciate it.
Because sometimes Mother's Day hurts.

. car seats
👶
This is one of the most common errors in car seat usage (I’ve even known several of my own friends to do it), so I figured it was worth a quick reminder.
🚙
When installing your car seat, use one or the other. Do not use both at the same time (unless your seat allows it and this is RARELY the case). Lots of people think you double up on the safety when you do this, but this is incorrect.
🚨
Use seatbelt OR Lower Anchors—whichever gives you a proper install. This will vary based on which car seat you are using and also on which automobile you are installing it in. So I will repeat the most important piece of advice:

READ YOUR MANUALS. Yes, plural: car seat and automobile. And if you have questions, reach out to customer support or find a CPST in your area that can assist.
