Educating clients about their hair is more important than simply doing their hair.
Understanding your hair and scalp matters now more than ever — especially as I see so many women feeling like they have no choice but to turn to wigs for convenience… which slowly becomes dependency.
This client came to Boston to study psychology.
But at Salon Monét, she received an education in cosmetology — at least the hair part.
When she asked me for a relaxer, I paused 🤦🏽♀️
Instead of saying yes, I sat her down and we had a real conversation about her options and her long-term healthy hair goals.
We chose a different path.
She transitioned to natural — starting with one keratin treatment 💫
From short, broken, relaxed hair… to this.
Because sometimes transformation doesn’t begin with a product.
It begins with education.

Sometimes history isn’t made by trying to be historic—it’s made by being brave enough to follow a dream where there is no clear path. Salon Monét is proof of that. What started as a vision, sacrifice, and faith turned into legacy, impact, and doors opening for others behind me.
I didn’t just build a salon—
I created representation, possibility, jobs and permanence on a street where I didn’t see business owners that looked like me.
I recalled pointing her finger saying “ You can do it” and I did!
There is No history without black history.
