FIVE years ago today...
I never thought I'd own my own business.
I didn't know how anything worked...
At 40 years old, I pushed myself to learn.
To just do it.
I started this journey to help a few people, now I see an average of 80 people per month.
I am here for you, because of you. 🫶
So happy 5 years to you too.
I appreciate those of you who learned with me, stuck by me and still support me and my local small business.
Me Time.
Your time.
Our time.
I look forward to seeing you soon. 🫶

We will figure out something.
Because you are worth it. 🫶
A visual reminder of why I ask that you not be more than 10 minutes early.
Often, I only get 30 minutes in between.
Please be mindful. 🫶

I debated if I should post this because I don't want anyone to feel like I'm calling them out.
I also don't feel the need to "defend" myself.
But, I received a lengthy text -a week after meeting a new client. That text had many valid "complaints". So I'm using some portions of that message to clarify a few things.
"Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the massage. To start, you were chatting throughout much of the appointment, which made it difficult for me to relax."
Your first appointment is about us working together to discover areas of your body that need work. Often times, people aren't even aware that some areas on their body are holding tension. I will discuss with you your complaints, ask questions and scan your body. I will make you aware of your specific needs. This requires conversation. Again, this is the initial meeting. I do need to learn your specific needs to further assist you.
I will shut up next time, because I prefer you melt into the table quietly as well.
"I also found the actual massage to be very pokey and proddy, and overall I did not feel like the massage was good. I specifically asked you to focus on my back, but you spent only about 10 minutes working on my back. Most of the rest of the appointment was spent on my legs and feet, even though that wasn't what I had asked for. You also spent around 10 minutes using a massage gun on my feet, which I didn't request and was not what I was paying for. I could have bought a similar tool or rolled on a tennis ball instead of paying for a massage."
I understand I'm not the right fit for everyone. I'm ok with that. At the beginning of every massage with any new client, I tell them if they don't like something I'm doing, please let me know immediately. I can't fix an issue that I am not aware exists. I'm not sure if this person has an internal clock or where the 10 minute time frame comes from.
Just because you say you have low back pain, does not mean you only want back focused massage. Furthermore, the way that muscles work, there is more than likely something else going on , somewhere else as well. I definitely work feet. Not many therapists do.
The massage gun helps loosen the tight fascia, this helps save my thumbs and actually encourages better movement. Your feet are your foundation. Your shock absorber. And many of you abuse and neglect them. Generally, I allot 5 minutes to foot work for each session. I also ask at the beginning if I should avoid any areas, such as your face, head or feet.
"The pressure was an issue as well. I had to ask you probably five different times to use lighter pressure because it was extremely uncomfortable. I kept asking for the pressure to be reduced, but i don’t feel like you properly adjusted. I shouldn't have had to repeatedly ask for the same thing during a massage."
My pressure levels vary. I can adjust as needed. But, If my light touch is too much, we can end that massage then. Communication during the massage is important!. Speak up for yourself. Unless I notice your body tensing up, or you telling me, how would I know. I know now that in the end, I can't make everyone happy so I will end massages going forward, in the moment, if I feel like you're unhappy.
"Then, the massage was ended about 10 minutes early so you could show me stretches. Honestly, I would have much rather had those 10 minutes of massage that I had paid for. I wasn't there for stretching instruction, and would have asked a PT if I wanted stretching instruction."
If you arrive more than 10 minutes early, and I allow you in early, that's when your time starts. This has been an issue before. Arriving early and starting early doesn't automatically give you more time, for free. Certain stretches aide in your recovery. If you don't want this, again... Please communicate.
" I didn't receive the service I was expecting or paying for. I honestly can't believe I paid for the experience I had, and I'm considering asking for a refund. "
I wonder if I ate my food at a restaurant and decided I didn't like it that I just wasn't going to pay. Or come back days later for a refund. 🤔 This is why I encourage new clients to try a 30 minute session before committing. Not all therapists are the same.
Some will love my work.
Some will not.
I am ok with people not liking what I have to offer. Or even not liking me as a person.
However, I can't help everyone.
So I hope that you all speak up for yourself IN THE MOMENT, and find the right fit for you.🫶
Please continue to offer feedback.
Your words are your feelings and I try to respect that. 💞
