🧠 Mental Monday: Buddy Check & Su***de Awareness

Today is the 22nd — a day many groups dedicate to raising awareness about su***de prevention. In Missouri, there’s even a law supporting “Buddy Check 22” to encourage all of us to reach out and check in.

This is often aimed at veterans, but honestly — it applies to everyone.

👉 The VA has reported around 17.6 veteran su***des per day in 2022. That’s far too many. But here’s something that doesn’t always make the headlines: people in jobs like mining and construction face su***de rates more than double that.

💡 My take? One is too many.

If you raised your right hand, swore to defend the country, and served even one day on Active Duty — you’re a veteran in my eyes. And no matter who you are, veteran or not, your life matters.

That’s why I support the American Legion’s “Be the One” campaign — a reminder that every single one of us can be the one who listens, who checks in, who helps a buddy through a dark time.

🙏 Please — check on your people today. Not just vets, but friends, family, coworkers, the quiet ones, the strong ones… everyone.

Sometimes a simple “How are you, really?” can be the thing that makes all the difference.
