Is your skin dry and cracking? When it’s cold and dry in the winter we need to pay extra attention to our skin. It’s salve season at Little Bird! Our beautiful whipped salve is shipped freely from October to March without concern for melting in transit. This is a must-have treat for your parched skin right now.

Get clean and wet in the shower and then immediately slather on the Everyday Oasis…skipping the towel all together. This will lock in moisture and gives soothing relief that lasts all day.

For all my extra sensory friends out there - our herbal salve is non greasy and formulated to leave a velvety finish on the skin. It’s so light and fluffy and a true joy to put on the skin.

I’m REALLY excited about this one. I’ve been dreaming of an oil cleanser that is quick and easy to use, tons of protective antioxidants, and rinses away clean after just a few minutes of massaging (I’m a lazy face washer y’all).

Oil cleansing is the G.O.A.T for face cleansing that doesn’t strip your natural elements yet deeply and effectively cleanses away dirt and oxidized oils (which are what clog your pores). It can also reintroduce lipid nutrients that your skin needs for a healthy barrier. But many are put off by the experience because it requires effort to really get in there with a steamy cloth afterwards and wipe away all the oil. And, many are put off by the feeling of any residual oil left behind. Furthermore, if your technique isn’t done well it could be problematic if you haven’t properly removed all the oil.

Oil cleansing is a beautiful, timeless ritual. And when you have the energy and are in the right mindset, it’s a wonderful practice. For me, as a busy Mom, it’s just not realistic everyday. So I’m formulating a rinse away oil cleanser! It self-emulsifies when you introduce water and becomes a milky texture that rinses right off. It will be the first offering in our new category of H**p + Algae Skincare. A melody of oils infused with h**p flower and high in carotenoids (that’s what gives the bright orange/red color), algae oil, and an extract of algae called astaxanthin - one of the strongest natural antioxidants we have access to. It will be super hydrating, toning and protective. A daily reset for your face that feels indulgent without a huge commitment.

Three new products in the works! Ironing out the kinks and then test, test, test. This is definitely the fun part for me. Anybody want to humor me and guess what kind of skincare products they might be?

The many extracts from h**p ❤️. Read on if you wanna geek out on the details. 😉

First two images show you what h**p distillate looks like. It’s initially extracted via CO2 (carbon dioxide under controlled temperature and pressure to extract without losing integrity of cannabinoids and terpenes). Next it is refined further (distilled) to increase potency of cannabinoids and purify from plant matter, waxes, etc. so that it is a highly concentrated extract of cannabinoids and some terpenes.

Next two images are our lipid infusions of h**p flower. My favorite method. Here we get cannabinoids in their raw/acidic forms which add another dimension to the efficacy of our products. The compounds we are familiar with (CBD & THC) occur after these raw forms are heated. There’s a lot of great new research coming out suggesting that the acidic form of CBD has better bioavailability and efficacy. After I steep h**p flower in our oils I put it through a vacuum filtration system to ensure all plant matter is removed for a very high quality finished oil. This process is definitely tedious, but worth it.

The last image is h**p seed oil. We use unrefined, virgin cold pressed oil in order to take advantage of its nutrient dense nature. We want all the good stuff. H**p seed oil has a perfect ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which strengthen the outer layer of our skin so it can better retain moisture (very important!). Other components like vitamin E, b-sitosterol, and campesterol provide anti inflammatory and antioxidant support.

Everything gets blended together for maximum, whole plant synergy along with h**p essential oil and we have the G.O.A.T for a h**p facial serum. And that’s how our Flower & Oil H**p Booster was born.

Before Richard and I started Little Bird here in North Carolina, we were living and working on our farm with a group of friends in Oregon. I was organizing files the other day and found these amazing pictures that I really wanted to share. It was a very special time in our lives. C@nnabis was literally the backdrop to our love story. ☺️

For me, having the experience of watching this plant grow from start to finish was such a privilege. So much beauty! And the smell…my favorite!! Also, there was the bonus of having incredible variety in scent from all the many terpene profiles. It was heaven for my nose.

It was during these years that the concept for Little Bird’s product offerings began brewing in my mind. And our color palette was definitely inspired by the rich colors at harvest time, seen here in some of these photos. In fact, the botanical image on our packaging was picked, pressed, and photographed by me on this very farm!
