Our baby boy turned 9 months this week, and I couldn’t feel happier or more emotional.

There’s something about carrying him for 9 months and now raising him for 9 months that really puts into perspective how far we’ve come. With that comes this constant duality… feeling so full and so heartbroken at the same time.

I’m beyond grateful to have a healthy, growing, incredibly sweet baby boy. And at the same time, I’m mourning the loss of my tiny, breastfeeding infant.

For the past 9 months, I’ve exclusively breastfed and pumped, and that chapter is now coming to an end. I feel so proud and grateful that my body was able to nourish him in that way. It’s something I don’t take for granted, especially knowing how physically and emotionally challenging it can be, and that it doesn’t come easily for everyone.

For most of my adult life, my focus has been building my career. Balancing that with breastfeeding while working a physically and emotionally demanding job was no small feat. Choosing between eating, peeing, or squeezing in a few more minutes to pump… pumping in the car, on the train, and then coming home to breastfeed him. It was a journey I’ll never forget.

It showed me how strong I am and what our bodies are capable of.

Transitioning to formula has also been a lesson in letting go, giving my body a break and allowing space for more of myself again. There should never be guilt in making the best choice for you and your family, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t come with intense sadness.

As I move through this transition, I’m holding onto the excitement of what’s ahead and the joy of watching my baby boy grow into who he’s becoming.
