This past week has been one of the most challenging and unexpected seasons I’ve had to walk through. Being hospital-bound since Saturday was not something I saw coming, and with a heavy heart, I have to cancel Galentine’s Day on 2/21.

Right now, healing has to come first mind, body, and spirit. As much as I love creating spaces for joy, connection, and self-care through Karen Olivia Beauty, I know I can only pour into others when I am whole myself.

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone who has checked in, sent prayers, positive energy, kind words, and unwavering support. To my Crane Man, my friends, my family, my clients, and my Karen Olivia Beauty community! your love has wrapped around me in ways I can’t fully put into words. Your continued support of me and my business means more than you know, especially during moments like this.

Karen Olivia Beauty is built on love, healing, and authenticity, and I’m so grateful to have a community that understands when it’s time to pause and heal. This Sunday, I had the honor of speaking at Grace United Methodist Church, and the message God placed on my heart was Faith Over Fear.

A lot of people see the finished product…the business, the brand, the glow….but what they don’t see are the long nights, early mornings, tears, doubts, and prayers that come with entrepreneurship. This journey isn’t easy.

It takes faith when you don’t see results, discipline when you don’t feel motivated, and courage to keep going when everything in you wants to quit. But through it all, God has never failed me. 🙌🏽

When I stepped out on faith to build Karen Olivia Beauty, I didn’t have all the answers…but I had belief. And that’s what I spoke about: believing even when the path doesn’t make sense, trusting that God didn’t bring you this far just to leave you.

In this season, I’m moving with peace and purpose. I’m choosing to be around people who align with my spirit …people who pour back into me, engage with me, and match my energy. I’m no longer forcing connections or conversations that drain me. I’m walking where I’m celebrated, not tolerated. 💫

And to my friends and family.. thank you for being my foundation, for showing up, supporting me, praying for me, and believing in the vision even when it was just a dream. Y’all mean more than you know. 🤍

‼️ Let’s Talk About Functional Depression…

Y’all see me. I show up, I smile, I handle business. But what you don’t always see is the weight I’ve been carrying. Losing my girlfriends and other close loved ones set me back..

it made me move differently, made me lose motivation for the things I know I needed to do.

But that’s what functional depression can look like. You get up, you take care of yourself, you handle responsibilities… but certain things? They fall to the side. The energy just isn’t there.

And when you’re someone who’s always been the strong one, the caretaker, the one people count on, it’s easy to keep that mask on until one day, you realize you’ve been neglecting yourself.

I’m coming out of that space now. I’m realigning, doing more for myself, getting back to the things I love. And if you’re in that same place, I just want to remind you: Keep showing up for YOU.

Even when it’s hard. Even when you don’t feel like it. It won’t always feel like this. But we can’t sit in it forever! We have to feel, heal, and keep living.

As 2024 comes to a close, It was a year of incredible highs, heart-wrenching lows, and everything in between. I met amazing people who became part of my world, accomplished goals that once felt out of reach, and celebrated the arrival of Baby K my first granddaughter.

Watching her grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Her laughter, her little milestones, she’s been a light in every sense of the word.

But this year also brought loss. Chef Nas, definitely was the life of the party. So talented and a passion for his craft.

I said goodbye to one of my girls, Pru. She wasn’t just a friend, she was my rock. Pru was unwavering in her faith, always supportive, and true to herself despite every challenge life threw her way. Losing her has left an ache in my heart, and I miss her every single day.

Then came one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make. My son’s battle with mental illness forced me to take steps I never imagined I would need to. It’s been a journey of pain, uncertainty, and helplessness. It shook me to my core and made it hard to find motivation for anything, including the plans I had for myself and my business.

I found myself stuck in what I can only describe as functional depression. I could handle the basics
…getting up, taking care of myself etc but the things that required energy and drive, like pursuing my goals, felt impossible. Climbing out of that space has been a slow process.

Through it all, I’ve been blessed with an incredible support system. My circle, my rocks 🫶 they kept me grounded, encouraged me, and reminded me to keep going, even when it felt impossible. To them, I am forever grateful.

Now, as I look toward 2025, I’m ready for a fresh start. I’m determined to rediscover myself and finish the two books I’ve been working on. I’m ready to dream again, create again, and live fully again.

Thank you for being part of my journey, for loving me through it all, and for reminding me that even in the darkest times, there is light.

Here’s to a new year, a new journey, and a renewed spirit.
