If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and are in need of resources, the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance in Ann Arbor are a group of wonderful ladies who pour their energy and hearts into helping patients all across Michigan. They provide resources, support groups, fun group events, care packages and an opportunity for volunteer work to give back.

Tying Teal Ribbons for Ovarian Cancer is one of the many ways you can spread awareness and spark conversation about the signs and symptoms within your communities.

I was not aware of the signs and symptoms upon my own diagnosis 5+ years ago. Shortly after my surgery, I would learn how underfunded and unknown this specific cancer is. I happen to have a rare form of Ovarian which is Low Grade Serous Carcinoma which has even less awareness/funding.

To date, there is no prescreening tool for a diagnosis which leads to an advanced stage diagnosis for most patients. Females as young as 16 years old are being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. No female is too young which is why it’s so important to monitor symptoms if something feels off and advocate for yourself.

Many symptoms mimic other common conditions:

❤️‍🩹 Abdominal bloating
❤️‍🩹 Fatigue that doesn’t go away
❤️‍🩹 Feeling full quickly
❤️‍🩹 Frequent urination
❤️‍🩹 Bowel changes
❤️‍🩹 Lower back pain
❤️‍🩹 Pelvic dull pain

If you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, it is imperative to get genetic testing to know your risk. Do you have a family member who is BRCA positive? An even more important reason to get genetic testing!

How can you support ovarian cancer research?

1. Please see the attached QR code to make a donation directly to MIOCA.
2. You can stop by our Brighton or Novi locations to make a cash or check payable to the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance.

At each of our guestcare desks, there are stickers and bracelets to support the cause. Please feel free to help yourself to each. 

Signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer:

* bloating in abdominal area
* feeling full/loss of appetite 
* frequent urination 
* fatigue
* pelvic pain

These symptoms can mimic other conditions, so it is imperative that you monitor your symptoms and share them with your gynecological provider.

Ovarian Cancer is often diagnosed at advanced stages because these signs and symptoms do not present themselves until stage 3 or higher. 

Ovarian Cancer research is severely underfunded, especially rare subtype conditions.

Last year, we raised $6000 between both locations! Can we hit a $10,000? I think we can!!!

The ONE Salon family greatly appreciate your support to employee, Adrienne Conner and all that you’re doing to help fund ovarian cancer research! Adrienne was diagnosed with stage 3C rare, low-grade ovarian cancer just over five years ago.  The reoccurrence rate for ovarian cancer patients are very high, so continuing research and funding is needed. To date, there is not a cure or a pre-screening tool for ovarian cancer.
