Does your hair get dry and brittle this time of year?
If you’re spending a lot of time in the sun, you might notice your hair becoming more dry, brittle, and damaged. But why is that?
Your hair shaft is filled with keratin (protein). Prolonged exposure to the sun weakens the protein structure, sucks out moisture, and reduces elasticity so your hair breaks more easily. Pair that with wind, humidity, chlorine, or saltwater and you have a recipe for brittle and damaged hair!
So how do you avoid damaging your hair this summer?
Wear a hat when you plan to spend a lot of time in the sun
Add moisturizing products to your routine to replenish your hair’s moisture loss and restore your hair’s elasticity
Before swimming, wet your hair with unchlorinated water and apply a mask or leave in conditioner. This will help your hair not suck up as much chlorine or salt water and create a barrier for your hair
