For years, Barbara Harman searched for archival quality wardrobe covers for her best clothing. Not every item she owned required such care, but certain cherished pieces deserved special storage and protection. Despite diligent efforts, she consistently came up empty handed. She created high-quality preservation products and launched a new online business: The Butler’s Closet. Harman conducted extensive research, including interviews with textile conservators, to learn about the proper techniques for preservation and storage. Using information gleaned from a variety of sources, she designed a collection of unique items made from 100% cotton percale fabric, breathable and completely free of chemicals, bleach, and dyes—consistent with modern conservation and archival techniques. Harman read extensively about the Edwardian era and the extraordinary life in English stately homes. During those halcyon days, butlers and their staffs organized a life of magnificent luxury.
