Years later, I sold my company for a billion dollars.

What changed?

My journey from shy paperboy to successful entrepreneur taught me 5 key mindset shifts:

1. Embrace discomfort.
As a kid, I was too scared to collect money for my paper route.
I let fear hold me back.
Now, I know growth happens outside your comfort zone.
Push yourself daily.

2. Focus on value creation, not just money.
The breakthrough came during a leg workout.
I realized I needed to create value, not chase cash.
This led to Quest Nutrition's mission: ending metabolic disease.

3. Find a mission that lights you up inside.
With obesity in my family, I was driven to make food that tasted good and was good for you.
This passion fueled 18-hour workdays that felt energizing, not draining.

4. Work harder on yourself than on your job.
At my tech job, I went all in.
I didn't take a day off - except Christmas - for 6.5 years.
But I was working hard, not smart.
Personal growth is the real key to success.

5. Never stop learning and improving.
When I met my future business partners, I saw an opportunity to learn.
I stopped thinking of myself as just a copywriter and started thinking like an owner.

Success isn't about where you start.
It's about how far you're willing to go.

I went from giving away newspapers, to co-founding Quest Nutrition.

Your past doesn't define your future. Your mindset does.
