Born on January 26, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio, Anita Baker has graced the world with her soulful voice and timeless music for over four decades. Raised in Detroit, she began singing in gospel choirs at the age of 12 and joined the funk band Chapter 8 in the mid-1970s .

Her solo career took off with the release of The Songstress in 1983, but it was her 1986 album Rapture that catapulted her to international fame, featuring the Grammy-winning hit "Sweet Love" . Known for her rich contralto voice and emotive delivery, Baker has won eight Grammy Awards and has multiple platinum and gold albums to her name.

In recent years, she embarked on The Songstress Tour in 2023, celebrating the 40th anniversary of her debut solo album .
