Farewell to Baddies 🌹 ❤️

The inspiration for opening Baddies came from a simple concept. I wanted q***r people to feel comfortable getting their hair cut. That’s really it. This obviously means something different to everyone, so I focused on what I need to feel comfortable when I enter and exist in a space, as well as suggestions from others. A hello when you walk in the door, music that is not too loud, being listened to, feeling genuinely understood. For 9 years, this has been my goal. I know I was not perfect at it, and I can say I have learned from those missteps. I have received feedback that my goals of opening Baddies have been seen and experienced by many people, and I am at peace knowing that. I feel I have accomplished a goal I set out a long time ago. That said, next week will be our last week at 61 Greenpoint Ave.

I have always wanted to own my own business. My maternal Grandpa came over from Italy and started his own business which still exists today, and I was greatly influenced by him. I decided my business would be a hair salon when I was 20 and attending beauty school. I opened Baddies at 32, and I am 41 when I write this. Looking back on the last two decades, I feel so much gratitude for everyone who I met as a result of my decision to pursue hair.

As it was for so many people, the year 2020 was one of the worst years of my life, but amidst the chaos and pain of that experience came one of my closest, dearest friendships. Janet has been part of Baddies for most of the ride. We were fast friends. I am my best self when I am around her, as well as my most authentic. We became business partners two years ago, and she gave Baddies two more years of life. Janet is hands down the best thing to come out of my experience at Baddies. I can’t wait to see what’s next for us both.

Thank you to everyone for supporting me and us. Extra special thanks to the ones who have gone above and beyond (you know who you are, and if I try and name you here, I’ll be anxious I forgot someone.) I truly can’t thank you all enough. My heart is so full. I love you.
