Mahne Roots Collective
Boutique hair salon in Broomfield's Arista community, owned by Miles and Nicole Higgins since 2013 (formerly Roots Salon & Hair Studio).
Custom color, balayage, color correction, precision cuts and hand-tied extensions. Davines color, Aveda care. Roots Salon started with 2 chairs & a simple idea of creating a place that as hairstylists we would have the freedom to be the perfect fusion of artistic, technical, and thoughtful without the corporate notion of a stylist. After our success with a few years of growing a clientele, we began to look at the possibility of creating this success for other stylists with the ability to make more then they could in other businesses. To have the ability to grow as a stylist while having the freedom to have their time outside of the salon. Over the past 2 years, we have been able to watch them all grow and find a place that they want to be apart of. Creating and nurturing their own niche within Roots. This blend makes a lively, well-curated, home-like experience for every guest that walks through our door. We believe in openness & open conversation in creating your perfect look. Your hair is the only accessory you wear every day we want to make it the best accessory.

Is there an Aveda salon in Broomfield? Yes.
We use Aveda hair care on you in the chair and sell it to take home. Our color is Davines. Two brands, two jobs, both picked for Colorado's dry air.
New on the blog: what "Aveda salon" actually means, how to match an Aveda line to your hair, and what to ask any salon that uses the phrase.

The most useful question you can ask before choosing a salon is the one almost nobody asks: how does the person in that chair get paid?
There are three basic arrangements. Booth rental, the stylist rents the chair and keeps what they charge, self-employed, their own color and standards. Commission, the stylist works for the salon and is paid a share of the work, and the salon sets the standard for the color, the backbar and the education. Hourly, paid for the time they're there, full chair or empty. This isn't a knock on the people in any of those chairs. Plenty of excellent stylists rent. It's about what the structure guarantees you before you've even met them.
We run a commission salon on purpose, and here's what that guarantees you as a client: every stylist here uses the same color to the same standard, so the result isn't a coin flip between chairs. If color goes wrong, someone more experienced looks at it with you, a real second set of eyes, not just the person who gave you the result. And if your stylist ever leaves, your formula and history stay with us, as long as notes were kept, so someone else can pick your hair up mid-conversation instead of starting over.
We've owned this salon together since 2013. Every appointment starts with a consultation, and we talk the plan through before we start.

How much does balayage cost in Broomfield?
Partial balayage: $190–$255
Complete balayage: $205–$290
Total blonde: $265–$355
Each price covers one bowl of color, and a toner over the top is an add-on. Length, thickness and the stylist you book move you around inside the range.
We share our prices because we believe they're the best pricing for the quality we give. You should hear your number before we start, not after.

Most people who tell us they have dandruff do not have dandruff.
They have a dry, flaky scalp, they've been calling it dandruff, buying anti-dandruff shampoo for it, and getting worse instead of better. Buildup, dandruff and a dry scalp are three different things, and the way to tell them apart isn't by looking, it's by time. Buildup improves after a proper wash and stays improved. Dandruff keeps coming back on its own rhythm no matter how clean the wash.
If you think something more serious is going on, that's a dermatologist's call, not ours. Persistent flaking that returns within days of a clean wash, redness, scaly patches, or a scalp that's sore rather than itchy all belong with a doctor. We can tell you what we see on the surface, we can't diagnose anything.
For everyone else, it usually comes down to better products, kept consistent, and enough time to know if they're working.
