Twenty-five years ago, I sat in a classroom waiting for the day to end so I could celebrate my brother and co-owner Andrew’s birthday. Instead, my teacher rolled in a TV to show us news of an incident in the City. It wasn’t until we got home and turned on the news that we realized the true scale of it: this was not just an incident, but an attack on American soil.

I vividly remember the heavy, quiet sadness that settled over our community. Families gathered at churches to pray, united by fear and the terrible uncertainty of what might happen next.

I will never forget that day. We will never forget those who lost their lives in the attacks, nor the heroes who perished trying to save others in the aftermath. Today, we say a prayer and hold everyone who lost their lives—and everyone left behind to grieve them—in our hearts.
