* This is the day launched 23 years ago. I’m standing with John Paul DeJoria, Founder of Paul Mitchell and Patrón Tequila at our launch party in West Hollywood back in January, 2000.

What a ride the last 23 years have been. Here are a few lessons I've learned along the way:

1. You don’t last this long if your ego makes your decisions for you.

2. You don’t last this long if you spend all your time talking about what you’re going to do instead of quietly just doing it.

3 . You don’t last this long if you choose short term gains over long term strategies.

4. You don't last this long if you waste time basking in the praise of fans or stressing about the lies of liars.

5. You don't last this long if you think what got you to the dance will keep you there. It won’t.

6. You don't last this long if you forget to have gratitude for those who: paved the way before you, provided mentoring and life-changing lessons, and even opportunities you may have never gotten on your own. (Thank you Rick. RIP ❤️)

7. You don’t last this long…. if you always think you will. You can never stop learning, never stop working, never stop innovating and never stop growing.

Most “success stories” are short lived. They are here today and gone tomorrow.

Legacies are rare.

They are built on incredible hard work, never taking your eye off the ball, constant innovation and re-invention, humility, gratitude, integrity and, mostly, on elevating others.

As we start our 24th year in business, I would like to thank every person who has ever helped me….or hurt me. You've all made me stronger.
