This is a post that I really don’t want to make but my body has unfortunately made the decision for me 🥲

Going forward, I won’t be offering lightening services

I’ve been having increased severe reactions to lightener and as much as I wish I could just push through it, I’ve reached a point where continuing to expose myself to it simply isn’t worth risking my health.

If you’ve been with me for any amount of time, you know how much vivid color means to me. Some of my favorite work I’ve ever done in this industry has been bright, bold, weird, beautiful hair. So, I really don’t take this decision lightly. It’s been so hard to realize that I have to step away from a part of this career that I love so much.

But I also want to be able to keep doing this until I’m able to retire and that means listening to my body when it’s telling me that something has to change.

I am NOT stepping away from doing hair. I’ll still be offering color services that don’t require lightening, haircuts, and of course, my head spa and scalp services 🖤

To everyone who has supported me through every version of my little business, thank you. For booking with me, recommending me, sharing my work, trusting me with your hair, trying something new with me, and continuing to show up as my business has grown and changed

I wouldn’t get to do what I love without you guys and I’m so grateful for that 🖤🖤

To every person who shared my posts, recommended me to someone, tagged me when someone was looking for a service, or just continued to hype me up and get my name out there. I hope you know how much it actually means to me

Because of you guys, I’ve had some new faces come through my door recently and I was able to pay a really important bill this week 🤗

I know paying a bill doesn’t sound like some huge exciting milestone but when you’re running a small business and trying to help support your family, it really really is 🥹

There are so many people in my corner who want to see me succeed and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly explain how grateful I am for that

I love this community so much. I wouldn’t be able to do this without you guys

I’ve gone back and forth about posting this because talking about the hard parts of owning a small business feels incredibly awkward

But the truth is, things have been really slow lately

Rainy Day Parlour is my job and one of the ways I contribute to my family 🖤

So instead of quietly stressing about it, I figured I’d just tell you guys that I have a LOT of availability over the next few days

My head spas are 45-90 minute scalp & hair rituals built around slowing down and being taken care of for a while.

Warm steam, customized scalp treatments, pressure-point techniques, extended massages, hot towels and a whole lot of love 🖤

It’s quiet, it’s cozy, and for a while, there’s absolutely nothing you need to be doing

And supporting my business absolutely does NOT mean you have to spend money with me. Sharing my page and my posts, tagging me when someone is looking for a head spa, or simply telling someone I exist is more than enough support. Word of mouth is a huge deal for small businesses in small towns 🫶🏻

Why a romance bookstore?

I’ve been asked this a surprising number of times

Why just romance?
Do we really need an entire store for that?

And to all of that, I say absolutely.

Romance is SO much bigger than people give it credit for.

Sometimes it’s just pure escapism. Sometimes it’s reading about being loved exactly the way you are. Sometimes it’s messy and uncomfortable and makes you look at your own relationships differently.

It can be soft, devistating, ridiculous, dark, healing, filthy, heartwarming, comfortable, all while being completely unrealistic.

And there’s something really important about having a space where none of it is treated like it’s weird to want.

Here, you don’t have to justify what you like!

Want a sweet romance where they barely kiss? I can help you find that!
Want a book that has approximately 47 trigger warnings? You got it!

That’s why I wanted Bound in Velvet to be a romance bookstore.

Not because everyone needs a romance bookstore
But because the people who love romance deserve a space that actually understands why they do.

And I’m just barely getting started!
There are quite a few boxes headed this way that are going to make Bound in Velvet feel a whole lot more like the little romance shop I’ve had in my head. 🖤
