Watching my daughter live with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) has changed the way I see strength, fear, and resilience all at once.

HCM means her heart muscle is thicker than it should be, which can affect how it pumps and how her electrical signals travel. Because of that, she deals with abnormal heart rhythms and can have arrhythmias that can appear suddenly and without warning. Some days she seems completely fine, and other days she can feel dizzy, weak, or like her heart is beating out of sync.

Because of the risk of serious rhythm issues, she now has an ICD implanted. It continuously monitors her heart and is there to step in if something dangerous happens. Knowing it’s there brings some reassurance, but it also serves as a constant reminder of what she’s living with.

HCM has taught us to pay attention to the smallest changes, to advocate, and to never ignore symptoms. It’s a condition that’s invisible on the outside but very real in everyday life. ❤️
